I jerked against their hold again, letting out a growl.

“Dylan, don’t you dare! If you do this, I’ll never—”

“Forgive me?” he asked with a scoff. “I think we’re past that. I don't need yourforgiveness,Kohl. I never wanted it. Just like I never wanted to be related to you in the first place. You’ve been and always will be an embarrassment. A stain on my family. The product of an affair, not even with someone worthwhile. You’re just like your mother—weak andworthless. I won’t let you destroy this family’s reputation with your subpar blood anymore.”

“Shut the fuck up,” I growled.

He let out a laugh and motioned for his lackeys to stay put.

“I’ll be back,” he said. “Don’t let them go.”

The two made noises of agreement as I struggled, my heart beating so hard in my chest I worried it would explode.

Dylan tilted his head to the side. I couldn’t see his smile behind the mask, but I felt it. “Don’t worry, little brother. I’ll bring you a memento. How do you feel about a finger?”

“Don’t—” I shouted, but he just laughed, disappearing into the greenery.

All the hope I had burst into flames and caused my entire body to deflate.

What the fuck was I going to do?

“Not so hot now, huh?” Yellow muttered in my ear.

I jerked against him.

“I’ll kill you,” I threatened.

“No you won’t,” Pink said from my other side. “Youcan’t.”

I needed to get to Vic. I needed to save her before—

A loud beeping came from the sky, making us all look up as a drone sped away, leaving a package floating toward us. My tracker sang out, the animatronic voice cutting through the fog of my despair.

Slowly, the popcorn-like container descended from the open ceiling to my feet, opening before I even had the chance to touch it.

My eyes widened at the present that lay snug in the box.

“Thank you,” I said aloud, a grin spreading across my face. I slammed my forehead into Yellow’s face, making him loosen his grip and dove for the object, the electric buzz clicking to life at the touch of a button.

“What the hell is—”

“No, don’t! Please!”

Vic

He’s going to fucking kill me.

When I finally came up to the building the housed the tunnel of love, the area around it was blissfully deserted. Most of the players—at least what was left of the Ghosts so far would all be in hiding now that the Killers had formed packs, hunting like lynxes to flush out their prey. But I wasn’t going to stay still. That wasn’t the move anymore.

Not with Kohl on my side.

We just needed some time to plan.

I climbed over the low fence and jumped into the thigh-deep water, wading until I found the low platform of the ride. The cold water was as good as nine cups of coffee, staving off the exhaustion that’d started to take root in my bones.

Inside, the tunnel was lit with warm sconces attached to the walls—romantic—I supposed, if the circumstances were different. I imagined coming to some place like this with Kohl, cuddling in a swan shaped boat as we sailed down the tunnel. It was utterly embarrassing and majorly cringe worthy, but in another life, I would’ve loved it. Because in this one, I couldn’t enjoy this. Not while I was running for my life and using Kohl like a tool to get what I needed. This wasn’t some cozy little make-out spot for Kohl and me. This was a hope that no one was in here looking for quick little rabbits.

I pulled myself up onto the ledge, wedging myself between the wall and the booth that held the mechanical control panel to wait. Taking the gun from my waistband, I clicked off the safety and counted the rest of my bullets. Not as many as I would’ve liked, I’d have to be careful.
