I forced myself to look back at the mirror as I rode out the waves, desperate to see what she saw.

She was watching me again, though if I were being honest, I wasn’t sure she ever looked away.

A light sheen of sweat covered my body, my face red from the intense orgasm she just pulled from me.

“And most importantly,” she whispered, “I love that you love me too.”

Her words caused the breath to leave my lungs. I didn’t know what to say. Didn’t knowhowto say it.

She made it seemsoeasy, but it felt like a tremendous weight to even justthinkthe words.

We stayed there for a few more moments, both of us looking into my eyes as I came down.

She was right. Of course she was. There was nothing to hide. We had come this far.So why was it so fucking hard for me to say?

The thing that scared me the most was her being taken away from me, that alone just proved everything I felt about her.

So why wasn’t my mouth moving?

“Take your time, baby,” she said, placing a burning kiss on my throat. “I’ll go check to make sure they got our money and pack up. I’ll be waiting.”

I didn’t say anything as she helped me right my clothes before leaving. I was too taken aback by everything that had just happened.

It was true. It had been true.

It wasn’t a hard conclusion to come to, but it was… scary.

I didn’t think I would ever love. Even when I became more open and started dating back at the club, I never truly thought that I would fall in love, or be loved by someone.

But here it was. As simple and as easy as it was… I loved her.

I let out a laugh.

“I love her,” I whispered to myself, a smile spreading across my face. I straightened, looking at myself in the mirror.I can do this.

The words seemed heavy, and it was hard to open up to someone… but this wasQuinn.I had nothing to be afraid of with her.

With a smile, I turned back to the exit, ready to run after her and utter those words that scared me so deeply.

Just as I was about to grab the handle, the doors burst open. Screams filtered in. Bright lights blinded my vision.

I tried to grab onto something—anything—to try and stay upright, but the force of it all caused me to stumble back.

My world turned upside down. My back came into contact with a hard surface. The air was knocked out of my lungs.

I tried to blink away the spots in my vision. Tried to open my mouth to call for Quinn. But nothing worked.

Hands grabbed at me, but they were not the hands I had grown accustomed to. These ones were gloved, and instead of trying to pull me up, I was forced to the ground. The ringing in my ears was loud, but not loud enough to drown out the man’s bark.

“Police! You are under arrest for the murder of Russell Crowe!”

Blake

The cell that they had dragged me to was cold and completely empty.

The hard stone bench I sat on caused my ass and back to ache. I sighed as I rolled my shoulders, trying to chase away the discomfort.

The jail itself probably hadn't been updated for thirty-something years. Many of the metal bars in the cells itself had been rusted through, and if you looked carefully, the corners had collected dust. Through all my time working with the Secret Service and helping law enforcement catch those who tried to hurt my assignments, I’d never seen such a jail be so broken.
