“Someone who needs information,” he finally said. “Page seventy-two.”

I looked back at the phone to find what he was referencing.

My eyes widened when I saw the name on the screen.

Alec Crowe.

There wasn’t much that spooked me in this world. But that man… I had made it my goal to never cross paths with that psychopath again.

He started out as a low-level gangster, but over the span of just three years, he had annihilated two bigger gangs in the area and consumed them. He was something more akin to a small warlord than a gang leader.

His men were now in the thousands, and they specialized in the trafficking of nuclear weapons. Many of which had made it across borders. This person wasn’t one to fuck with. If he were involved, it would automatically make this one of the most dangerous missions I have been on.

Sure, I had killed heirs and heiresses, upcoming world leaders at times, but they all worked in the light and paid people to do the dirty work. Alec was darkness himself. And someone who was so accustomed to it would let nothing get in his way.

“He’s the client?” I asked.

When he didn’t respond, a sinking feeling filled my gut. If I had a choice, I’d want to be on the man’s side, doing some type of dirty work for him instead of going against him.

“What does a secret service agent know about him?” I asked.

Again, no answer.

“Why does she have so much attention on her?” I asked. “I thought the agents were supposed to be the ones with the entourage. Isn’t it strange how many people are watching her? Regardless of who she’s watching?"

“She’s important, that’s all you need to know,” he said, his tone warning me that I was on the verge of pissing him off. “She frequents this club, gives her team the slip. Many think she’s going to the gym or is out drinking. She hadn’t reported that she has a longer-term sexual partner, so the assumptionwasthat she has many one-night stands, but if my intel is correct, she is actually seeing someone right now. Has been for some time but is rarely seen out with them.”

“And where does this intel come from?” I asked. “Someone in the club? Maybe they can do this instead.”

This was far out of the norm for me. Enough to make me slightly uncomfortable.

“Are you ungrateful for this opportunity, agent?” The lowering of his voice caused something inside me to shift.

“No, sir,” I spat out.

“Good,” he said, his voice notably lighter. “Because she has someone at her side, it will be hard to get to her. I expect you to figure something out.”

“So you want me to kill the partner and seduce the agent. Got it.”

Rolf let out a sigh and shook his head.

“If you must, but this is one of the only places she frequents that isn’t crawling with agents,” he said. “There is a rumor about her having access to a USB drive that contains some…harmfulinformation. If you can find it and bring it back, all the better. If not, force the information from her and put a bullet in her head. When you’re done, leave her body someplace visible. For her partner, on the other hand, just try not to make it too obvious. A disappearance would be easier to work around than a murder.”

I gritted my teeth and sped through a couple of the documents. I paused when I caught sight of her.

She had the most brilliant green eyes. Ones that looked so expressive, even in the professional headshot they had attached.

I made the mistake of letting my finger brush across them. The other woman’s eyes had tempted me, but Tiffany’s were much more than a simple temptation. Ineededthem. More than I needed this job. More than I needed the security of it.

Hell, I would shoot Rolf right now if it meant that I could have them.

“You can take them,” Rolf said, causing a flurry of heat to run through me. “The client doesn’t care much about the state she ends up in, just that it’s done.”

His permission to take those beautiful orbs was enough to send a bolt of excitement through me. Maybe he did it on purpose. To somehow make it more enticing to put myself in this situation.

Well, it fucking worked.

“Should I get her fired?” I asked. “Maybe even kill off the senator?”
