“Is th-th-this one okay?” he asks shyly.

“It is,” Rome answers, leaning against the door jamb. “None of the rooms have been used. I keep them clean just in case, but you’ll be the first person to sleep on that bed.”

Tanner lies back on the bed, a huge grin on his face. “Thanks, Papa.”

Chapter 21

Rome

It’sbeenamonthsince Tanner and Benjamin moved in with me and I couldn’t be happier. I thought after a while, my mate would get tired of seeing me both at home and at work, but it’s been going well. Unfortunately, after he has our son, he said he’s going to move to another department. It’s not against the firm’s policy for us to work together, but Benjamin said he wanted to head off any talk of favoritism or preferential treatment. I understand, but I’d rather he stayed my personal assistant.

When I step inside, I’m greeted by Tanner running with Zane on his shoulder, making the baby laugh loudly. “Slow down,” I chide Tanner.

“He l-l-l-loves this stuff,” Tanner says brightly, bringing Zane down to tickle his belly.

Benjamin still takes Zane some nights to give Brandon and Mason a break, not that either of them ask him to. Brandon and Mason would love nothing more than to be with their baby all day, but Benjamin said he and his nephew have standing sleepovers that he refuses to change just because he moved further away. I love having Zane here, so he gets no complaints from me.

Chuckling at these two, I pull Tanner in for a hug and kiss his hair. I lightly pinch Zane’s cheek and he reaches up to grasp my finger. The baby has one hell of a grip.

“Where’s your dad?” I ask Tanner.

“Kitchen.” He gives me a look and I laugh. Benjamin has made the kitchen his own and Tanner and I are only allowed in it if he doesn’t feel like cooking. Which is rare indeed.

I stand in the kitchen entrance and watch Benjamin move around. Music is playing softly and he’s swaying his hips to the beat. His rounded belly is very obvious and I don’t think I’ve seen anything more beautiful.

Benjamin glows with his pregnancy. His light brown skin is luminous, shining with health. His curls have gotten longer and more unruly, but Benjamin tames them without much effort. His pecs have gotten softer, filling with milk that will nourish our child. Gods, this omega is phenomenal.

“I’m home, baby.”

My omega turns around with a smile, hustling over to me as quickly as his belly allows. I wrap him in my arms, loving how his baby bump feels pressed against me. “How was work?”

Benjamin didn’t come in today because it was our final inspection with the social worker. I wanted to be here as well, but it was also the day myself and the other lawyers got together to try to strike down some archaic laws. The one that I put forth months ago for Maximus passed without much of a fight and he’s currently in the clear to keep his property. He came to visit a few days ago to inform me that his husband is on the mend but thanking me nonetheless for securing his future if the need arises.

“Good. Not too many more of these meetings I believe,” I say with a smile. “We might have to figure out how to go national, but most of the shit that was unfair to omegas is slowly going away. Not many alphas have the desire to hold on to the old prejudices. Pretty soon, New York will be free of prejudiced laws.”

Benjamin beams a smile at me. “I love to hear it. You’re doing great work.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Yeah? Is that you kissing my ass for it?”

He barks a laugh, probably thinking back to his outbursts before I fucked him for the first time. Just thinking about that has my eyes dipping to his mouth. Grinning, Benjamin stands on tiptoe and gives me a kiss. “Control yourself, alpha,” he mutters against my mouth.

“Do I have to?” I quip.

Slapping my chest, Benjamin extricates himself from my arms and goes back to the stove. “Dinner will be ready soon. Brandon and Mason will be over for dinner so they can take Zane home. Tanner asked if he could stay the night with a friend. It’s in the neighborhood, but I wanted to check to make sure it was okay with you.”

“Have we met this friend?”

“We will tonight,” Benjamin says, stirring the pot in front of him. “His dad is bringing him over so we can meet them both.”

I nod, though he can’t see me. “Then it’s okay with me.”

Tanner comes in the kitchen, a sleeping Zane on his shoulder. I reach out to take him, but Tanner steps away, putting a possessive arm around the baby. “G-g-get your own,” he whispers and I chuckle. I love how good he is with Zane. It shows me how good he’ll be with his brother.

We still haven’t figured out a name for him yet. We’ve talked about a few, but Benjamin and I never agree. We’re having a good time talking it over though.

I keep Benjamin company while he cooks and Tanner sits with Zane in the living room, playing on his phone while the baby sleeps open mouthed on his shoulder.

Twenty minutes later, the doorbell rings. Tanner gets up to get it, waving me away when I try to get it myself. I’m expecting to see Mason and Brandon round the corner, but instead I see two Korean American omegas walking into the kitchen, one around Tanner’s age. Tanner comes to stand beside me.
