“They were the only thing keeping me calm because the two people that I love the most in the world were on their way to the hospital, and I didn’t know what happened or if you were going to be okay. My God, what if you weren’t okay? And why am I just falling apartnow?”

“Because you can,” he says and turns me with his good arm and pulls me against him. “Because the adrenaline is finally wearing off, and you know that everything is fine. I’m fine, baby.”

“I know.” I wipe at the tears and look up at his impossibly handsome face. “I just love youso damn much.”

“I love you, too. I’m not going anywhere. I don’t think I could drive tonight.”

“That’s not funny.” But I offer him a watery smile. “Is your head okay?”

“Yeah, I got lucky there.”

“I wish I could just put you in a big plastic bubble so that you’re safe.” He frowns down at me, and I cup his face in my hands. “You’re precious cargo, Drew.”

“A big plastic bubble isn’t really the fashion statement I’m going for,” he says. “But Iwillbe careful. It was an accident, London. It wasn’t anyone’s fault.”

“Caleb was worried that it was his fault because he made you slam on the brakes.”

“Shit, I’ll talk to him.” He closes his eyes grimly. “It wasn’t his fault. It was just icy.”

“I know that. And so does he, but he could probably use some reassurance in that department.”

“I’ll do that.”

“But stay here with me for a minute first,” I add, holding on to him and loving the way he feels against me, so strong and real. “I’m not ready to let go.”

“You know, I had big plans for last night.”

I look up at him, surprised. “You did?”

“Yeah, bigplans. But this works, too.” He reaches up and brushes a strand of my hair off my cheek. “I love you, London. I know that there will be times when our relationship isn’t easy. Teenagerhood, for example. Or, if we never win a championship title.”

“Oh, God, we’re doing this.”

His face turns sober. “Yeah, we’re doing this. We’re absolutely doing this because I love you completely. I love your loyalty, your intelligence, your passion. I love that little noise you make when I first slide inside of you.”

I can’t help but smile at that.

“There isn’t anything that I don’t love. And I love Caleb, too. He’s the best. I want you both in my life until I take my last breath. And I’d like to have more children with you.”

I feel my eyes go round, and Drew swallows hard.

“You mentioned once that you don’t plan to have more kids.”

“I didn’t,” I admit. “But that was because I hadn’t met anyone I wanted to take that on with. I hadn’t metyou.I would love to have more babies with you, Mr. Montgomery.”

“You don’t have to say that just to placate me.”

“Oh, I don’t usually placate anyone.” I loop my arms around his neck and thread my fingers through his hair. “Now, are you going to ask me a very important question?”

“I’m getting to it. You’re so impatient.”

I grin, and when he leans in to kiss me, I pull back. “Ah, ah, ah. I’m still waiting here.”

“Marry me, London.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a ring, offering it to me. “Be mine.”

“Iamyours.” I narrow my eyes. “Holy shit, that’s my grandmother’s ring.”

“Yeah, your dad gave it to me for you.”
