‘That was before—’ She arched under him, burning to get closer still to his hard, male body while his hands explored ever curve of hers. ‘Before…’

‘Before?’ His hand slid over her breast and she realised in a daze that she hadn’t even felt him remove her bra.

‘Before you.’ The flick of his tongue over her nipple brought a gasp to her throat and she curled a leg around him, the ache in her pelvis intensifying to unbearable proportions. ‘Before I met you.’ The touch of his mouth was skilful and sinful in equal measures and she closed her eyes and felt the erotic pull deep in her stomach.

‘You’re beautiful.’ His mouth trailed lower and his fingers dragged at her tiny panties, sliding them downwards, leaving her naked.

She slid a hand over the hard planes of his chest, felt his touch grow more intimate. His fingers moved over her, then his mouth, and she offered herself freely, wondering what had happened to her inhibitions.

Drowning in sensation, she shifted and gasped and finally he rose over her and she reached for him, desperate.

‘Now.’ Her eyes were fevered and her lips were parted. ‘I need you now. Now.’

And he gathered her against him and took her, his possessive thrust bringing a gasp to her lips and a flush to her cheeks. For a moment he stilled, his eyes locked on hers, his breathing unsteady. And then he lowered his head and his mouth covered hers in a kiss that was hot and demanding, his powerful body moving against hers in a rhythm that created sensations so exquisitely perfect that she cried out in desperation.

Her skin was damp from the heat and her fingers raked his back as the sensation built and threatened to devour her whole.

She toppled fast, falling into a dark void of ecstasy, and immediately he slowed the pace, changing the rhythm from desperate to measured, always the one in control.

With a low moan she opened her eyes and slid her arms round his neck. ‘What are you doing?’

‘Making love to you.’ He spoke the words against her lips, the hot brand of his mouth sending her senses tumbling in every direction. ‘And I don’t ever want to stop.’

She didn’t want him to stop either and she arched her back and moved her hips until she felt the change in him. Felt his muscles quiver and his skin grow slick, heard the rasp of his breath and the increase in masculine thrust.

And then she felt nothing more because he drove them both forward until they reached oblivion and fell, tumbling and gasping into a whirlpool of sexual excitement that sucked them both under.

She lay there, eyes closed, struggling for breath and sanity. His weight should have bothered her, but it didn’t.

And she was relieved that he didn’t seem able to move either.

Eventually he lifted his head and nuzzled her neck gently, his movements slow and languid. ‘Are we still alive?’ With a fractured groan he rolled onto his back, taking her with him. ‘You need to wear more clothes around the house. I find it hard to resist you when you’re naked.’

Her eyes were still closed. ‘It’s your fault that I’m naked.’

‘It is?’ He stroked her hair away from her face and something about the way he was touching her made her open her eyes. And she saw.

‘Gio—’

‘I love you, Alice.’

Her heart jerked. Jumped. Kick-started by pure, blind panic. ‘No need to get all mushy on me, Dr Moretti. You already scored.’

‘That’s why I’m saying it now. If I’d said it when we were making love then you would have thought it was just the heat of the moment. If I said it over dinner with candles and wine, you would have said it was the romance of the moment. So I’m saying it now. After we’ve made love. Because that’s what we just did.’

‘I don’t need to hear this.’ She tried to wriggle away from him but he held her easily, his powerful body trapping hers.

‘Yes, you do. The problem is that you’re not used to hearing it. But that’s going to change because I’m going to be saying it to you a lot. A few weeks ago you weren’t used to talking or touching but you do both those now.’

‘This is different.’ Her heart was pounding. ‘It was just sex, Gio. Great sex, admittedly, but nothing more.’

His mouth trailed over her breast and she groaned and tried to push him away. ‘Stop. You’re not playing fair.’

‘I’m in love with you. And I’m just reminding you how you feel about me.’ He lifted his head, a wicked smile in his eyes, and she ran a hand over her shoulder, trying not to lick her lips. He had an incredible body and every female part of her craved him.

But that was natural, she reminded herself. ‘It’s sexual attraction,’ she said hoarsely, trying to concentrate despite the skilled movement of his mouth and hands. ‘If sexual attraction didn’t exist then the human race would have died out long ago. It isn’t love.’ She gave a low moan as his fingers teased her intimately. ‘Gio…’

‘Not love?’ He rolled onto his back and positioned her above him. ‘Fine, Dr Anderson. Then let’s have sex. At the moment I don’t care what you call it as long as you stop talking.’
