“I can’t read yours or Will’s or Blaine’s. And there are a few others in the school I can’t read either. And my dad.”

“Your… dad…” He studies me. “Henley, who is your dad?”

“Daniel Stone.”

Parker’s body stiffens. “You’vegotto be kidding me.”

“What?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “Nothing. I just… I know him, that’s all.”

My jaw drops open. “Youknow my dad?”

“He used to live here.”

I blink. “What?”

Parker rubs a hand at the back of his neck. “I thought you knew. But, yeah. He lived here. He was best friends with my dad.”

How do Inotknow? And why wouldn’t my dad tell me?

My dad doesn’t talk much about his life before he moved to New York. All I know is that he was from a small town and he moved because of his job. He wanted to help people—save lives. So he moved to where he could help the most people.

I shake my head, pushing the thought away until later. I will definitely be asking my dad about that.

“I still don’t get why you believe me. I can’t even prove it because I can’t read your mind.”

He shrugs. “It answers some questions I had about you.”

“Like what?” I ask.

“It explains why you got sick yesterday after the cafeteria. And it explains the nose bleed this morning. And how you knew about the girl who was fantasying about Blaine.”

My cheeks grow warm. “Trust me, the girls in this school do a great deal of thinking about the nefarious three.”

Parker rolls his eyes. “The kids in this school need to get a life.”

I shrug. “They’re bored. It’s why they’re all so obsessed with me. They’re excited to have a new classmate.”

His blue eyes meet mine. “They sense there is something supernatural about you. No human girl is as pretty as you.”

“What?” I ask, confused. My heart swells at his pretty comment, but I try not to focus on that.

He raises an eyebrow. “What to which part?”

“All of that. I’m not supernatural or pretty.”

He scoffs. “Henley, you can read minds. If that isn’t supernatural, I don’t know what is.”

I press my lips firmly together.

Okay, maybe he has a point on that one.

He continues. “As for the pretty part, you know you’re gorgeous. It’s why Blaine is obsessed with you. Even Will wouldn’t shut up about you.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Will hates me.”

Parker nods. “Yeah, but don’t take it personally. He hates everybody.”
