“I’m glad you’re feeling better, Vixen.” Blaine smiles at me, but I can see the concern on his face.

Was he worried about me?

Parker slides a sandwich in front of me. “Eat.”

Blaine and Will share a look—one that I can’t read. They look back and forth between Parker and me, but they don’t say anything. I wonder what they’re thinking.

I grin, thinking how foreign of a concept that is. I’ve never had to wonder what somebody was thinking before.

I lift the sandwich to my lips, taking a bite. At least I won’t be hungry today. And after school, I’ll be able to tell my dad that I made friends.

Well, I’ll tell himafterhe tells me the truth about this town and why we moved here.

“Are you sure she should sit here?” Will turns his gaze toward Parker.

I keep my head down, not wanting to look at Will. He scares me.

So much for him being worried about me.

“Yes,” Parker says, not backing down. “She belongs here more than she does with anybody else. Besides, her dad is pack.”

Pack?

What does that mean?

Will speaks up before I can ask. “Who is her dad? That’s… not possible.”

“Daniel Stone,” Parker says.

Nobody says a word after that, but I wish they would. I have more questions than ever.

That was strange.

I have so many questions I want to ask my dad.

It’s weird that he grew up in this town but has never said a word about it. I know nothing about his life prior to New York.

What made him want to move back here? What made him move away in the first place?

But any questions I have suddenly vanish when he comes into my room that evening.

“Are you ready?” Dad asks.

I look up from my book. “Ready for what?”

“We’re going to have dinner with a friend,” he says simply.

Afriend?

I close my book, looking up at my dad. “Are you going to explain?”

“Explain what?” He crosses his arms over his chest.

“Explain how you have a friend. Or how you lived here before.”

He takes a step back. “How did you know that?”
