Probably not.

But…

“I can’t tell him.” Tears well up in my eyes. “What if he thinks I’m a freak? You said I’m not normal.”

Will gives me a determined look. “Henley…”

A tear rolls down my cheek as I realize he’s not going to let me keep this a secret.

His shoulders sink. “Fine. I will let you keep your secret. For now. But you need to know it won’t stay a secret for long. He’s going to find out. And heshouldknow. There is no way he will think you’re a freak.” Will’s eyes lock onto my wings. “You’re kind of beautiful.” He looks at me again. “Don’t take that the wrong way—I mean yourwingsare beautiful.”

I grin. “Don’t worry. I know what you mean.”

After what happened with Will’s parents, I know he won’t allow himself to see a girl likethatuntil he meets his mate. And even though I’m glad I’m not his mate, I know his mate will be a lucky girl. Will is loyal to those that he loves.

“I’m going to call Parker and tell him that I’m walking you home. He’s probably freaked out that you’re not at the party,” Will says, pulling his phone from his pocket. “And then I’m going to actually walk you home.”

“Where is your car?” I ask, looking around the driveway.

“At Parker’s house.” He dials a number on his phone. A moment later, somebody picks up. “Wait—” Pause. He sighs, annoyed. “Henley is with me!” Another pause. “I’m walking her home.” He huffs and holds out his phone toward me. “He wants to talk to you.”

I take Will’s phone, hesitantly putting it to my ear. “Hello.”

“Henley.” Parker sounds… relieved. “I was worried about you. I couldn’t find you.”

“Blaine was supposed to tell you,” I say. “I went to talk to Will.”

“What did you want to talk to Will about?” he asks.

I look at Will, then down at my feet. “He was just upset about seeing us together. And I know he’s your friend. I never want to come between you two. So I went to talk to him.”

“Is he being mean—”

I cut him off. “No. Will is not currently being mean. He’s just walking me home. You should have a night with your pack.” My voice quivers. “As much as I wish I was, I’m not part of your pack.”

“Is that what Will said?” Parker growls.

“It doesn’t matter what Will said. He’s your friend.” I glance at Will. “Will is also my friend, even if he doesn’t want to be.”

Will rolls his eyes at me.

Parker laughs. “Okay, fine. I’ll let Will walk you home. But it doesn’t change anything. You are part of the pack. Don’t let anybody ever make you feel excluded, not even my friends.”

“I know.” I worry my bottom lip between my teeth, wishing his words were true. But the fact is, I’m not a wolf shifter.

“I’m going to come by your house tomorrow to see you,” Parker promises. “Don’t let Will get to you. I’m not going anywhere.”

“I know. And thanks.” I hand the phone back to Will, who doesn’t even bother with a goodbye. He just ends the call.

“Are you ready?” Will stuffs the phone into his pocket.

I nod.

He glances back at my wings. “You should probably put those away.”

I will them to go away and they instantly disappear behind my back. Will looks at me for a few moments, his eyes wide. He’s probably wondering where my wings went and how I did it so fast—I’d like to know the same thing. Eventually he starts walking and I follow Will onto the path—the same path where he first revealed himself to me. I think he thought transforming into a wolf in front of me would scare me, but it didn’t. I think some part of me already knew the truth.

I trip over a rock. Will grabs onto my arm to steady me.
