“Do you regret it?”

“No. Never, Emerson. You hear me? Whatever the outcome, I’ll never regret a moment shared with you.”

I kiss her once more, because I can’t get enough of her, before helping her up, and assisting her with sliding back into her panties and shorts. I lift her off the table, placing her on her feet.

“Oh no.”

“What?” My eyes scan her body, looking for something that might be amiss.

“We’re going to have to erase the cameras.”

“I paused the one in my room. Besides, it’s pointed at the door for client confidentiality. There’s a lot of ink you have to strip down for, and we don’t record that. Just in-and-out activity of the room.”

“I know, but I was loud, Rome. So loud.”

I grin and drop a kiss on her temple. “I know.”

She playfully swats at my chest. “I’m serious. Pull it up, and see if you can hear us.”

I don’t think she was that loud, but then again, I was so lost in her, so she could have been.

Grabbing my phone from the desk, I pull up the app and choose the hallway camera. I hit Play, and sure enough, you can hear her calling out my name. Part of me wants to save the video to my phone so I can listen to it repeatedly at night when I’m alone in my bed and missing her. However, I know I can’t do that. If I want to hear her come for me, I’m just going to have to get creative.

“Shit. Shit. Shit. What if they were watching that?” There’s panic in her voice.

I step in behind her and wrap my arms around her. She leans her back into my chest and instantly relaxes. Holding my phone in front of her, I erase all the video footage from today. That way, it won’t look as suspicious. We can just say it was an outage with the company or something. Hell, I’m sure the guys will never notice, but she’s right. It’s a risk, and it’s better if we do what we can to prevent them from finding out until she’s ready.

I’m ready now. I know the outcome, and I’m willing to face the consequences.

I could lose my part of the business if the guys band together and ask to buy me out. I could also lose one if not all four of my best friends since kindergarten, but I’m still here. I’m still wracking my brain with ideas about stealing time with her before she leaves, and how often I can get to Lexington to see her while she’s finishing her last year of college.

I was all in the minute my lips touched hers.

I still have this heaviness in my chest when I think about Emerson losing her brother over us, but she’s assured me it won’t come to that. I know she’s younger than me, but as she’s told me time and time again, she’s a grown woman. I have to trust her instincts. I’ll never forgive myself if they don’t make it through this once Forrest finds out.

I should walk away.

I’m an asshole for not putting her first, but I tried already. I tried my hardest, and she wouldn’t let me.

I’ll just have to make sure he understands what this is.

It’s not just for fun.

We’re not just passing the time.

We’re falling.

I’mfalling.

And we’re all in.

ChapterFourteen

Emerson

After all my insistence that I didn’t need a birthday party, I’ve had a great time. Drake and his girlfriend, Lisa, and Lyra are perfect additions to our little family. The guys have been their crazy silly selves, and it’s just been… nice.

The only thing that would make tonight better is if I didn’t have to hide how I feel about Roman. We’ve done well staying away from one another. I’ve gone out of my way to engage Monroe and Lyra, and even Lisa, when she’s not glued to Drake’s side.
