Church hates her being out so late and always has to drag her away from my side. Ever since they Entwined, he’s like a little needy puppy just wanting her attention all the time. She says it’s the sex, but I think it’s something else - they haven’t said the L word yet, and I have a feeling Church will be the one to spill first.

After walking downstairs to the parking lot, we spot our men standing at the SUVs and both of us smile as soon as we see them. Two ex-hunters completely in love with their vampire men… Fate sure is weird for pairing the two most dangerous hunters with the two most dangerous vampires.

GABRIEL

“GABE!”

My heart literally drops when Katherine’s scream echoes throughout the mansion. I run from my office and fly up the stairs to our bedroom, only to see Katherine standing there looking down at her feet. Her head whips up towards me and she points down. “My water broke!”

And that is how I felt fear chill me to my bones. I move on autopilot and grab a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt from her walk-in, then slowly walk with her to the bathroom.

Her panicked heartbeat keeps me calm for some reason, even as she trembles while I help her clean up and get into dry clothing.

Afterward, I grab the overnight hospital bag by the bedroom door and pull out my cell phone.

“It’s time, let Autumn know,” I tell Valentine, then kill the call and lead my woman downstairs with the SUV keys in hand.

Luckily it’s just after 1 AM, so we’re able to get to Autumn’s without a problem. However, just as I put her into the passenger seat, I feel a sharp sting on my shoulder - a familiar fucking sting.

I shut the door and run over to the driver’s side, elongating my nails and removing the baobab bullet from my shoulder.

“Fucking hunters have been watching us!” I growl, then haul ass out of the estate.

Dialing Valentine’s number on the hands-free, he answers on the second ring.

“Fucking hunters are after us. Get Church and Xenia down here when you come,” I warn him before killing the call again and looking over at a wide-eyed Katherine.

“Are you fucking… kidding me?!” she says while gritting her teeth and slow breaths, then holds out her hand. “Give me a gun. I’m ready to tear these fuckers apart.”

I swear I married a Goddess.

I pop open the middle compartment and hand her a Beretta, watching as she lets down the window and leans out. She spots the black Jeep behind us and shoots out its wheels before pumping the last of the bullets into their windscreen to obscure their vision.

“Fuck, are you sure you’re in labor right now?” I ask incredulously as she gestures for me to hand her another gun.

“I’m in pain and these fuckers are pissing me off,” she says with a straight face, before taking out two more vehicles following us. “Speed the fuck up, Priest!”

I blink at her order and nearly have a clever response to her sass, but I decide to swallow it down before this woman decides to shoot me too.

Within ten minutes, we arrive at the clinic and strap a vest to her before putting one on myself. But the moment I got out of the SUV, a hail of bullets rained down on us.

“FUCK!” I growl, covering her head with a spare Kevlar vest and rushing her inside. There are splinters embedded in my back, but from what I can see, nothing hit her. “Are you okay?” I ask anyway.

She nods, then removes the vest and bends over double, groaning.

“Christ,” she says while sucking in a breath. Autumn runs out to meet us with eyes the size of dinner plates, but she remains calm as she leads Katherine to the birthing chamber.

It’s not lost on me that this is exactly how I was brought into the world; under heavy attack from hunters. Now it seems my child will have the same welcoming committee as I had, I refuse to think of this as a mere coincidence.

Church and Valentine appear soon after this and I pluck out the last bullet from my arm. Valentine has blood on his shirt and Church looks similarly disheveled and pissed off.

“They attacked the second Xenia and I stepped foot out of the mansion. Luckily you called to warn us or we wouldn’t have been prepared for this,” Church says with a growl, and Valentine nods.

“We’ll keep the place safe while you welcome your little one — go,” Valentine says.

I punch the wall next to me in frustration. “Someone has been watching us and knows Katherine’s due date. Find the fucker and bring them to me,” I instruct them, then throw off the Kevlar and walk to where Autumn took my wife.

Dressed in a hospital gown, Katherine leans over the bed and breathes out slowly. I make my way over to her and rub her back. “Everything is taken care of; we can welcome our child into the world without worry.”
