His eyes slip lower to my pulse throbbing in my neck, and his tongue pops out to moisten his lips. Then he reaches out and runs his thumb over it, just lightly caressing my skin, but his touch causes every nerve ending to come alive.

“Your heart is racing,” he murmurs, a smile playing in his eyes.

“A Pureblood vampire is standing in front of me. Do you expect me to remain calm?” I say, surprised that my voice actually remains at a level pitch.

He chuckles, and his hand moves from my neck, slowly making its way towards my chest, and it comes to a stop next to my breasts; then, he runs the pad of his thumb over my traitorous hardened nipple.

“Does anxiety always cause your nipples to pebble like this?” he says in that low voice again, rooting me in place. “Or is it something else?”

I don’t know if it’s fear not allowing me to move or push him away, but I can’t even answer him because I don’t fucking know myself. The way my body responds to this man is driving me insane, with both disgust and desire.

One thing does cause me to react, but not how I wanted to. When he lowers his head to graze my pebbled nipple with his teeth lightly, I suck in a strained breath that borders on a moan.

“I guess it’s something else then,” he chuckles, then turns and walks out of the room, leaving me a confused, throbbing mess.

GABRIEL

“You can’t keep doing this,” Valentine says in a chastising voice and crosses his arms while sitting on his Harley. He’s dressed the same as I am in all black leather, including his boots, and his blonde hair is tied up in a braid.

It’s been a week since I let Katherine out of the tomb and a week since I started her slow torture. She’s wound up so tight every time I see her that she might just snap from all the pressure.

I’ve been nothing but kind to her, even drinking my blood out of a crystal tumbler, but I know she’s waiting for the ax to drop.

My eyebrow shoots up, and I scoff. “I’m not sure I know what the fuck you’re talking about,” I say and swing my leg over my motorcycle.

Valentine growls. “You know exactly what I’m talking about, Gabe; you’re playing with her and pretending not to like it. But I’ve seen that look in your eyes many times before, it’s the same look you have when we go on our Fae hunts in Ireland.”

I can’t help but laugh as he likens my playing with Katherine to the Fae hunts. Once every ten years, the Fae King has banished Fae prisoners released in his forests and invites vampires to hunt them down and kill them. These are only Fae who have committed atrocities, and we can see those crimes the second their blood touches our tongues.

“If you’re implying that I enjoy toying with little Katherine, then you’re right. It’s fun watching her slowly lose her composure and crack little by little every time she joins me for dinner,” I say while slipping on my leather gloves.

Valentine sighs. “Are you sure she’s the only one cracking?” he says, then puts on his helmet and speeds away.

I know what he’s actually implying, but I’ll have to burst his bubble sooner rather than later. As fun as it is pushing Katherine’s buttons and watching her lose her composure, that’s all it is to me. This doesn’t mean anything; she doesn’t mean anything.

Putting it out of my mind, I haul ass out of the estate and follow Valentine out to our next mission.

For the last week, he’s been off with me for some reason, and now I’m wondering if this is it. Does he think I feel something for Katherine? Is he assuming that I’m playing with her out of interest instead of boredom?

I must admit that watching her reactions gets my cock harder than anything else, and knowing that she gets somewhat jealous of what I do with Gia is fun as fuck.

But to imply that there’s something else with the woman who killed Myrcella? I would have Valentine be the first to stake me if that had to happen, and that’s a big fucking if.

I pull up behind him, a block away from our target, and I put those thoughts out of my head. Andreas sent us to find one of their casino VPs who went missing after she was given a big promotion.

Apparently, three VPs had been running an underground trafficking ring right under their noses, and this missing woman was given all three of their positions.

He’s suspecting retaliation for what was uncovered but hoped that was not the case.

The VP lives in a quaint little home that doesn’t even show off her wealth. It was more of a modest cottage than anything else, which tells me a lot about the woman before I even met her.

She’s not flashy and likes the minimal; by the pink bicycle and helmet on the lawn, I suspect that she’s a single mother. This is confirmed when I only see one car in the driveway.

Valentine looks at me, then nods his head before going around the left of the cottage while I take the right.

We’ve done this many times before and have spotted something the other hasn’t. Since we have incredible eyesight and the ability to see in the dark, covert operations are not a problem, especially since this one appears to be sensitive.

We meet up in the back, both of us shaking our heads to say that we saw nothing when we hear something similar to water slowly dropping on a carpeted floor inside the cottage. But by the way Valentine’s eyes flash crimson and he walks ahead, I know that it is definitely not water.
