As if I’m her home.

Shaking the thoughts from my head, I know that what I’m feeling is mere obsession since she cannot ever truly be mine because of who she is.

I have my Fated waiting for me out there, so I need to get over my obsession with this little lamb and seek them out. I have a monarchy to build, and Katherine cannot be at my side while I usher in a new vampire generation.

She’s not mine, she can never be mine.

KATHERINE

Iopen my eyes to a wall of ripped muscle and tattoos, and it takes me a minute to register that I am lying in the arms of my enemy. My Fated; the man I am destined to hate and yet be with for the rest of my life. Funny how life works.

With my head against his chest, I can faintly hear the thudding of his heart, and it confuses me even more that his heart is even beating. Not only that but the slow rise and fall of his chest indicates that he’s actually breathing.

Do Purebloods have a different working anatomy than turned vamps? Well, the fact that Gabriel’s fangs are different from theirs, I would say so.

Swallowing hard, I slowly draw my hand to his inked chest and run my fingers over the artwork. Some of the inscriptions are written in a dead language, while others are in clear Cyrillic script, especially the names of his family members.

The rest looks like he was born with them because they fit so perfectly with his skin. Intricate patterns and faces, creatures, symbols, and so much more.

Glancing up, I gently place my hand on his bearded cheek and breathe out a sigh. It feels amazing being able to touch him like this as if my soul feels nothing but comfort being this close to him and allowing myself to touch him.

I can tell that he’s in a deep sleep, but I don’t know how this vampire sleeping thing works. Are they just passed out? Do their bodies stay unconscious until the sun goes down? If I move now, will he wake up and know that I’ve been admiring him?

“Hmmm, your thoughts are so loud,” he grumbles, and I immediately yelp and pull my hand away from his face as if I just touched an open flame.

This causes him to chuckle and take my hand, placing it back on his cheek. “That feels nice.”

“I didn’t mean to wake you,” I murmur while looking up into his closed eyes, but as soon as he opens them, my heart goes into overdrive.

Those damn baby blues… can’t he have permanent red eyes as Lycans do? It would make it easier for me to hate him and not feel this stupid pull in my core whenever he looks at me.

The clear, warm blue makes him seem human, kind even… not like he can kill as easily as I can breathe.

He groans. “Then you should probably stop squirming and let me sleep some more,” he says and closes his eyes again. “I was just at Death’s door, you know.”

“Oh, I know since I’m the one who pulled you back into safe waters,” I say, and my heart does a tiny flip when he smiles.

“That you did, and I still need to make it up to you,” he says, and I am about to protest and say that it’s no big deal when he flips me onto my back while he looms over me.

“Gabriel…” I say, and he hums appreciatively before leaning close to my ear.

“I fucking love it when you say my name, but I would love it more if you could scream it for me,” he says in a low, smoky voice that heads right down between my legs.

Placing chaste kisses on my neck, he nips at my skin and traces his tongue over my collarbone; then, he takes my shirt in both of his hands and rips it open. I gasp as the cold air hits my sensitive nipples, but they’re quickly soothed by Gabriel’s warm mouth.

I arch my back from the bed, dangerously aware that a vampire is suckling on my nipples and that it would just take a scrape of his teeth on my skin to cause the Bloodlust to take over.

But then again… once he tastes my blood, he’ll know that he’s my Fated, right?

“Why are you….” I gasp, “Why are you doing…this?”

He smiles against my skin and lets go of my nipple with a pop before running the pads of his thumb over them.

“I told you, I’m repaying you for saving my life. However, I don’t think this will be close to enough….”

The lust in his eyes causes my stomach to drop, and his lips are on mine even faster than that. He claims me with a possessive kiss, causing all thoughts of apprehension to turn into a buzzing mess of static.

Every skin cell tingles where his fingers caress me, and every neuron fires off a warning that we were heading into dangerous territory, but I choose to ignore it.
