“You’ll have to introduce me to her.”

“We’ll stop by The Oasis when we go for a walk.”

“Do Wren and Ariana know about us yet?”

“No. I didn’t want that to become the focus of last night’s dinner conversation.”

“Gotcha. But we can tell them?”

“Of course. I doubt we’ll be able to hide it. And there’s no reason to keep it secret.”

The way she smiled when she said that kicked the ass of the voice whispering in his ear that he wasn’t good enough. Unlike his mother or her family or Britney and her parents, Elizabeth saw the worth in people, and it had nothing to do with education or money or status.

“We’ll take Boss for a walk in the woods, then come back here and have lasagna for dinner. I can cook other things, but I know you like it, and I never make it just for myself.”

“I’d eat it every night of the week with you.”

“You don’t need to kiss up.”

“But I like kissing you. A lot.” He lowered his mouth to her willing one to prove his point.

His lips caressed hers, taking his time, despite nearly two days apart. His tongue teased her lips apart to slide in and touch hers, liking how hers sought his when he retreated. He probed deeper.

She leaned into him, pressing her breasts against his chest. He dropped his hand just below the waistband of her pants. His fingers drifted lower, testing her reaction as they kissed. They began inching even lower when Boss’s wet nose nudged his hand. Elizabeth flinched and laughed. His grip kept her from stumbling and falling on Boss.

“Thanks a lot, Boss. Next time, I’m gonna put you outside,” he grumbled. “I guess he wants to take that walk.”

“We’ll resume this later. I picked a movie for after dinner, but nothing that we reallywantto watch.”

It took a second for his brain to interpret her implication. “Gonna use me as your test subject?”

“You agreed.”

Oh, did he ever.

As soon as they headed to The Oasis, Boss loped toward their old home without waiting. John smiled at the sight of him making the rounds to get love from the three women on the new deck at Hope Harbor.

“How are you ladies doing?”

“Really good—thanks to you and Elizabeth making sure I don’t have to worry about J.R. anymore. It’s so good to see you.” Ariana moved in for a hug.

Mayala stared at him with the wide-eyed, mouth slightly open expression he often got meeting someone half his size.

“We’ve missed Boss and your comedic relief.” Wren’s gaze shifted from him to Elizabeth with a curious smile.

“And my singing?” he teased.

“Maybe a little,” Wren conceded.

John laughed.

Elizabeth handled introductions. “Mayala, this is John Bryson. He lived in Hope Harbor for a while before you.”

“How did you fit?” Mayala asked with a heavy accent. She looked from him to the tiny home.

“Not very well.”

Elizabeth chortled. The other women laughed, as well.
