In theYou May Knowfolder were three messages. Two were several weeks old. Don’t know you. Delete. Delete. But the one from Graham Holmstrom she opened.

Hi, Erin

She rolled her eyes, but the messages below made her pause before hitting delete.

I enjoyed chatting with you last week.

Maybe I should quit now.

This was too funny not to be real. But, she needed proof. She accepted the friend request to see if it gave her access to see more on his page since she could always block it.

Still no picture, no friends, and no posts. That was slightly better than a picture of him leaning against a Maserati, a selfie in the car, or a bunch of reposts and cheesy-saying memes.

I enjoyed meeting you too. What was the name of the place where we had dinner?

She messaged back. The real Graham would know, but a scammer either wouldn’t answer, knowing he was busted, or claim he didn’t remember.

Her phone chimed with an incoming message less than ten minutes later. Her giddy anticipation crashed to earth when she saw the message from Madison.

Dad says he’s coming here for Thanksgiving. We planned to go to NC. ugh!

Erin hit the call button rather than continue this via text.

“This is so complicated now,” Madison moaned in greeting.

“Thanksgiving is five months away. You’ll work it out.”

“It won’t be the same.”

“No, it won’t.” Erin sighed.

“I thought we could all do Thanksgiving with the whole Downey clan.”

“I’m sure your grandparents would love that.”

“And you’d come?”

“Me? I don’t think I’d be invited.” It would be awkward for her former in-laws. They were still cool toward her since she was the one who initiated the divorce. So, he drinks a little. What’s the big deal?If only it had been a little, it wouldn’t have been a big deal. She no longer had to pretend it wasn’t a problem. And it wasn’t her problem anymore.

“We could ask.”

“Let’s wait on that.” While she and Phil were on decent terms and Thanksgiving was only one day, with the divorce and Piper in Spain, it was time for new traditions. She’d be living at the beach but could come back to volunteer at the USO, serving dinner to the single soldiers. She’d never served on holidays before since volunteering there washerthing, and Phil had never been interested in helping or wanted her to work on weekends or nights.

What was it going to take for Madison to accept the divorce? Her dating? Not like that was happening. Either the friend request and messages were from a scammer or a married man. Either way—not good, and she needed to remember that. Maybe Phil would start dating.

“When does Connor start his new position?” She went for the redirect.
