"I need to get someone to guard Jessica in our bedroom."

Gabriel frowned. "To stop her running away?"

I sighed. "I'll get Gianni to do it. Plus his wife, Lorissa, to sit with Jessica." Gianni and his wife could be be trusted to do what was needed and not gossip about it.

I rang Gianni and told him to meet me outside my room with his wife.

Once there, I instructed him to guard the door to my room and Lorissa to sit with Jessica. He asked no questions, as I knew would be the case. "Let me talk to my wife for a minute before you go in," I said to Lorissa.

Entering the suite, I saw Jessica shoot up from where she'd been sitting and take a couple of steps back.

"One of my men is guarding the door and his wife will sit with you."

"To stop me from running away?" she asked in a small voice.

"No." Fuck. First Gabriel thought this was my reason and now Jessica too. "It's to keep you safe."

After what Jessica had told me, I had stormed out of the room in my determination to get to the bottom of the situation. But I had left Jessica— a young girl who was in a vulnerable position— alone and unprotected. I berated myself for not thinking things through properly. I always took care to assess situations in my work rather than act rashly, but my emotions had got in the way of that this time.

"They will stay with you until I return."

She looked confused but gave the tiniest of nods. Then I went back to Gabriel and we proceeded to my father's room.

Gabriel looked me carefully in the eye. “Our father’s gone too far this time, Rafael. He’s always preyed on the weak. We should kill him now—tonight.” He had given us a brutal upbringing, and there was no love lost between Emanuel Santino and his sons.

I exhaled as I shook my head. I’d like nothing more than to torture that fucker until he was screaming for mercy and then ending his measly existence. “If we do it tonight, people will eventually find out why and then find out about Jessica.”

Gabriel frowned. “You want to keep her?” I wondered what he would do in the same situation.

“She’s mine now. She might not be a virgin, but that is through no fault of her own. I can’t have people finding out about what happened to her. I won’t do that to her, not after what she’s been through. Anyhow, everyone will say the Santinos are out of control if we kill our father. Then there will be a power struggle, and other families will attempt to take over control of the Società. We’ll get our vengeance. It just won’t be tonight. Don’t they say revenge is a dish best served cold?”

My mind started to think quickly.

“We need to be smart about this, Gabriel. I won’t jeopardize the stability of the Santinos because that ensures the safety of our family: Mother, Nate, Nancia, and now Jessica.” The last name I had uttered was the most important one to me now. “Through whatever means, I need to protect Jessica—she has to be my priority from now on. Even if that means vengeance has to wait for now.”

Gabriel nodded. He knew what I was saying made sense. We would get our revenge, but it would have to be carefully planned and precisely executed. Despite my words, I had to push down the extreme urge surging inside me to execute my father right here and right now.

We arrived at his room, and I banged on the door. After a while, we heard him approach and open the door. “Ah, I thought I might get a visit from Rafael tonight, but not from the both of you,” he smirked.

Gabriel and I stepped inside the suite. Our mother was nowhere to be seen. “Where’s Mother?”

“Downstairs, checking on the arrangements for tomorrow’s breakfast. So, did your bride please you between the sheets tonight?” he mocked.

I took a step toward him.

“You know, if you take her brutally enough, I’m sure you can get her sweet pussy to bleed again. She seemed to like it rough, given how much she fought me.”

I clenched my fists as I thought about the violence Jessica must have endured. “Christ, you fucking disgust me,” I hurled at my father. “What’s happened stays between the Santinos and Bonardis. I won’t have Jessica’s reputation dragged through the mud. Is that understood?”

My father frowned at my tone. “Don’t you forget I’m still your Capo.”

Gabriel interrupted our father. “And I’m your heir. If you want the Santinos to stay as the ruling family of the Società, then you won’t air our dirty laundry or your disgusting ways in public. Jessica is a Santino now, and we can’t have our family look weak in the eyes of the rest of the organization.”

“You’re fucking lucky I don’t cut your dick off tonight, Capo or not,” I hissed at my father.

He laughed at me. “You’re just a sore loser because I got the prize of the cherry between Jessica’s creamy thighs. And let me tell you, her cherry was so deliciously sweet,” he said, kissing his fingers.

I lunged for him, but Gabriel held me back. “Rafael, we should leave now.”
