Seta.

My steps slowed as I studied the scene in front of me, searching for signs of a threat.

Seta’s lower body was submerged, but her arms were clinging to the soaked stones around the pool as though she were trying to keep from slipping beneath the surface of the dark water.

I opened my mouth to speak and alert her to my presence, but Seta spoke first.

“I need you,” she gasped in quick, shallow breaths.

Seta must have seen me step into the clearing, although I hadn’t seen her eyes open, and she hadn’t actually said my name. Was there someone else in the clearing? I quickly scanned the area but found it empty other than for Seta and myself.

“Please, Deus.”

My hesitation disappeared the instant my name fell from her lips. Closing the distance between us, I dropped to my knees in front of her. My stomach was clenching with a desperate, driving need that wasn’t my own.

“Tell me how I can help you.” Fear was tightening its fist around my heart as I searched her face and arms for injuries.

I couldn’t find a single mark on her skin that would explain the pained expression twisting her beautiful facial features or cause her rough breathing. Maybe the water was hiding her injuries?

Static popped and flitted across my skin as my worry grew.

Rein it in, De. If you lose control, you won’t be of any use to her,I reminded myself.

It had been years since my power had tried to push past the barriers I’d built to hold it back. What was it about Seta that seemed to call to my very soul?

Seta’s eyes blinked open, and her breath caught.

She was surprised to find me in front of her, which was strange since she’d called for me by name.

The little beauty in front of me was shaking, and something shimmered in the depths of her eyes as she stared up at me. I thought she was going to speak, but she bit her lip instead, trapping an odd gurgling sound in her chest.

Unable to resist the urge to touch her, I wrapped my fingers around her arms, hoping to steady her so she wouldn’t slip beneath the surface of the dark water and drown. Could a mermaid drown?

Tiny ripples like the rings around a dropped stone traveled from Seta’s body, probably from where she was treading water. Seta remained silent, and her large, luminous eyes were glazed over as though she were somewhere else.

“You said you needed me. What do you need? Are you hurt?” I slid my fingers across Seta’s cheek, wincing when my charged-up static popped between our skin.

“Deus,” her husky voice cracked, and a certain part of my anatomy stood up and took notice.

My brain was still trying to puzzle out what was going on with the tiny mermaid, but my body recognized the pitch of her voice. It was exactly how I imagined she would say my name as she orgasmed around my cock.

I wanted to pull her from the water and onto my lap so I could show her just how much she affected me. Shaking my head, I tried to clear the lust from my mind. This wasn’t the time. I gritted my teeth and prayed Seta wouldn’t notice the pitched tent between my legs.

Desperate to touch her, I brushed her hair from her pale face. “Seta?”

Her mouth opened and closed several times before she managed to squeak out, “I’m fine. I’m not hurt.”

Gently catching her jaw, I turned her face, still searching for the cause of her strange behavior. “You’re shaking.”

“The water is a little cold, that’s all.” Seta shivered again. Her pupils were dilated, her eyelids grew heavy, and her skin glowed.

Then, her scent drifted toward me. I wasn’t a werewolf, so I’d never been particularly talented at recognizing smells. But somehow, my body recognized the scent of pleasure. Seta’s pleasure.

Who had been here touching her? Satisfying her?

She was mine.

I searched the clearing once more, lightning crackling overhead to light the clearing. No one else was here.
