His answer to that question could potentially make or break my decision.

"I'll find out," he says, pulling his phone from the side pocket of his backpack and sending a quick text.

Immediately, his phone buzzes with a response. I can't help but sit on the edge of my seat, waiting anxiously for the answer.

I remind myself to chill out, but nerves are hard to contain.

"Marshall is the only one home right now. Ronan and Lincoln have classes until later," Liam responds, providing a bit of reassurance.

"Sounds good," I reply, attempting to sound casual, even though casual isn't exactly my strong suit. "Did you drive to campus?"

Liam nods. "Yeah. I'm parked in the lot."

"Perfect."

Liam raises an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "You're not very convincing, Sutt."

I admit with a small shrug, "I wasn't trying to be."

It's not like he's leading me into the lion's den or anything. True, the lions aren't home at the moment, but that doesn't make being in their territory any less unnerving.

"We can go somewhere else to work if that's what you want. Your dorm? A coffee shop?" Liam offers.

I shake my head. "No, no. Your place makes the most sense. I'm not trying to be difficult."

As we make our way toward the exit, Liam holds the door open for me. We speed walk to his car in the parking lot, eager to escape the chilly air.

"I promise it will be fine. If the other guys come home early, you can slip out the back door. They would have no idea that you were ever there," Liam reassures me.

I firmly state, "I wouldn't slip out the back door! I would walk out the front, head held high."

A playful smile tugs at the corners of Liam's lips. "Yeah?"

"Well… that's what I would want to do, but would it really happen? Who knows?" I ponder as I climb into Liam's car. The air inside is just as frigid as the outside, and I shiver involuntarily while Liam quickly starts the engine and cranks up the heat.

"I wouldn't take you anywhere you would be uncomfortable," Liam reassures me, and the warmth enveloping my face, combined with his comforting words, feels like being wrapped in a cozy blanket.

I reach over to squeeze his arm, smiling as I express my trust. "I know, and I trust you."

He blinks rapidly, like he's trying to fend off tears, and squeaks out, "How sweet."

"Oh my god! Stop," I playfully scold him.

He scowls at me for a moment before focusing on the road and shifting the car into drive. "Don't say such nice things then," he mumbles.

As we pull onto the main road, I lean forward to grab the aux cord and play some music. We both sit in comfortable silence, letting the music fill the space during the short drive from campus to his house.

Pulling into his driveway, I'm surprised to find that I feel at ease instead of on edge. It could be because I know Lincoln isn't here, or it could be that Liam's reassuring words have genuinely worked their magic. Either way, I mentally pat myself on the back, acknowledging that this is a step in the right direction for me.

"Are you ready to work?" Liam asks.

"Always," I reply with a smile.

Liam chuckles. "Let's go."

I dread the thought of leaving the warm sanctuary of the car and facing the frigid air. Racing to the front door, Liam manages to open it quickly enough that I don't feel the bite of the cold by the time I'm snuggled up on the couch. Liam drapes a cozy blanket across my body, and I can't help but revel in the warmth.

"I like you waiting on me hand and foot. A girl could get used to this," I playfully tease Liam, sinking deeper into the embrace of the blanket.
