A shiver of apprehension races through me. What could Lincoln have possibly shared with his father about me? I manage to compose myself and ask, "Yeah?"

"Yeah. He said if you have someone you care about, you should tell them."

I hum thoughtfully. "That's good advice."

"It is because I care about you."

My heart flutters, and I stutter, "I c-care about you too."

"That's good to hear because he also told me I'm an idiot and shouldn't have told you what we have is too good to be true."

I try to brush off the comment, even though it nags at me. "Oh, yeah. That was weird. He sounds like a good dad."

Lincoln's voice warms with affection. "The fucking best."

"I'm glad he set you straight," I reply, a hint of relief in my voice.

"He really did," I say with a grin, and through the phone, I can hear him laughing and shifting around. "We'll go to the bookstore this Friday after practice, yeah?"

"Yes!" I exclaim, the excitement bubbling in my voice. "I can't wait."

"Me too," he replies, his tone filled with anticipation. "I'll call you tomorrow night. Okay?"

"Yeah," I agree eagerly, my heart racing. "That sounds good."

"Night, sweetheart," he says warmly.

"Goodnight." I toss my phone aside and roll over, burying my face into the pillow my head was resting on.

When did this become my life? I find myself wondering. Talking on the phone with a guy I'm half in love with. Some days I question if the last three months are even real.

My college journey started with a simple desire to broaden my horizons, and they've never been wider. I've discovered things I enjoy and some I don't.

My reverie is abruptly interrupted when the door slams open so forcefully that it reverberates against the wall. Leia sweeps into the room with a dramatic entrance.

She pauses, standing at the edge of my bed. "Were you talking to someone?"

I nod, a small smile on my face. "Lincoln."

Leia rolls her eyes and theatrically plops down beside me. "You're always talking to Lincoln."

I hesitate for a moment before asking, "Do you think that's a bad thing?"

Leia takes her time to consider, choosing her words carefully. "It's normal, but there's something...different about you two. It's hard to put my finger on it."

"Is being different necessarily a bad thing?" I ask, curious about Leia's perspective.

"Do you think you guys are going to get married?" Leia teases, her voice filled with mischief.

I chuckle and shake my head. "We're not even dating!"

Leia raises an eyebrow, a mischievous grin on her face. "Because he's an idiot and hasn't asked you to be his girlfriend yet."

Unsettled by where this conversation is heading, I decide to change the subject before it delves deeper into my love life.

"What about you?" I ask, shifting the focus to Leia. "You haven't been dating at all."

Leia responds with a nonchalant shrug. "I'm taking a break from boys."
