Holt is already flying past him. All it takes is two seconds, Luca passes to Holt who’s already lined up for a slap shot. He swings his stick down and the puck goes sailing up passing the glove of the Boston goalie and back into the net.

The horn blows as the arena erupts again.

Drexton Hall Huskies win 1-0. It’s a big win against a tough team, and the excitement in the building matches the players on the ice.

I can’t help the fluttering and warmth I feel seeing the look on Nick’s face as the team heads to the locker room.

I noticed the relief he felt once the buzzer sounded, and then the happiness they all shared when they came together at the center of the ice. I feel his excitement just like I feel everything with him. A rush with sparks igniting my insides.

Ever the humble player, when both teams line up to shake hands, Nick stops at the freshman, Pelvsky. He says something to him no one can hear over the roar of the crowd, but it looks like a compliment and the guy’s face lights up in awe.

Nick, Luca, and Holt get honorable mentions for being stars of the game. They each make a gesture to the crowd, and Nick’s eyes land on mine before he heads off.

I’m sure it’s just my imagination, but I feel his appreciation and excitement when he looks at me. I like to imagine he’s happy I’m here cheering him on.

That my presence could actually mean something to him.

Another Drexton Hall tradition is to go to the Arena Diner.

I haven’t eaten here since Nick took me the first night we officially met last semester.

After the game, the four of us sat down and split some fried pickles, chicken tenders and disco fries.

“This diner isn’t bad. Not as good as New York ones, but I could get used to it.” Alex comments after he ate over half the food we bought to split between the four of us.

I notice a few freshman girls eyeing him and tossing flirting waves.

“Watch it!” I say, grabbing his attention. “Getting caught up with those types of girls will only lead to trouble.”

“Says the girl that’s banging Nick Miller.” He retorts.

Layla snorts next to him.

“I told you we’re just friends. I’m not banging Nick Miller.” I defend myself, throwing a fry at him.

“Yes, you are.” Bridget chimes in and I’m about ready to slap her. “At least you were. Sorry, but it’s obvious. However, you two are sweet together. Walking you home and when he persistently came looking for you. It was cute. I think he really likes you.”

“At the gym, they give each other fuck-me eyes. It’s so cute that they can’t stop themselves from staring.” Layla gushes to Bridget as if I’m not at the table with them.

“Oh my god, you should hear them in the house!” Bridget starts, but that’s when it’s gone too far.

“Alright enough! My brother doesn’t need to hear that.” I shout, stopping her before she retells how loud our bedroom activities are.

Alex gives me a knowing smile.

“Oh, tell me more, please. I’m dying to hear how my innocent prude sister gets off.” He smirks at them.

“That’s disgusting, Alex!” I throw another fry at him again, but he catches it in his mouth.

“I know you're not a virgin. I saw Johnny Beckles leaving your room that day during your senior year.”

This is beyond mortifying. That was the day I lost my virginity and the last time I hung out with Johnny Beckles.

“It’s ok, I’m not a virgin either.” Alex shrugs.

I hold my hands over my ears. “I don’t want to hear this.”

“Relax, Len. I have a steady girlfriend I’ve been with for almost a year now. You know Kylie. She lives down the block from us. I haven’t told mom yet.” He shrugs like it’s no big deal. “Mom thinks we’re just friends.”
