It’s not fair to say Hockey is myonlylove.

I love my family. My mom, my dad, my sisters, and my granddad. I love my nieces and nephews. I guess it’s not the same. I always said Hockey comes first.

Does that mean I can’t be with Lenny?

Fuck it.

I’m willing to give it a shot.

I’m looking at her picture again, and the thought of not being able to touch her again is driving me insane. I need to give this a shot. I need to try. All relationships are about taking risks. No matter who it’s with, they could end in heartbreak. And what if it doesn’t? What if we’re good together?

Now I just have to get her to take that risk with me.

1-3, and another win for Drexton Hall. That one goal was rough, but I’m not too upset. I can’t stop them all.

It’s Friday night and I still haven’t worked up the balls to call or even text Lenny.

Tonight was our last game before heading back to school tomorrow. Rest tonight, and then a ten-hour drive to endure on a coach bus watching game videos.

I should call her.

“Hey, Nick!” Luca calls over to me from the lobby.

I had just come down from my room to grab something to eat. I wave, but keep walking to the restaurant. All I want is food and then sleep. The exhaustion is creeping up on me and I don’t feel like dealing with Luca’s high energy.

He runs up to me when I don’t come to him.

“What are you doing tonight?” He follows me into the restaurant.

“Eating dinner then getting some sleep like everyone else.” I raise an eyebrow at him.

What does he think I’m doing?

“A few of the guys are thinking we could celebrate our last night and the three out of four wins we got.” Luca grins.

That one game was lost due to a garbage goal. It was deflected right off our own third line defenseman, Shane. And our backup goalie was in net. It should’ve been an easy win, so Coach wanted to try him out. He’s not bad, just got confused a bit.

I know that grin Luca has on. He’s looking to party.

“We still have a curfew, and a hell of a ride home tomorrow,” I warn him, eying the rest of the group he came from.

All freshmen. They’re still at that stage where they think they’re hot shots with no responsibilities. I was one of them once. We partied after a road game my first year, only to get chewed out for breaking curfew and being benched for two weeks. Not worth it.

“Yeah, yeah. We’re just thinking of pizza and some beers in one of our rooms. Nothing crazy.” I see the shift in Luca’s eyes.

He’s hiding something.

“Stay focused.” I give him another warning. “Screw up and you’ll be benched for the season.”

“Aye aye, captain. We’re just going to hang. I was thinking of getting the whole team together, but we’ll keep it small.” He’s lying about something. I don’t know what, but I see it in the shift in his eyes.

“I’m warning you Luca, don’t be stupid.” I give him one last injunction as he walks away.

He gives me a salute while joining the other freshmen.

I look at my phone as I walk into the hotel restaurant to find Greg, I need his advice. I should call Lenny before we get back.

Greg’s advice is to stop fucking around and just call her.
