“No. I don’t know anything.” She vehemently shakes her head. “I just saw you wrap it at the gym and I saw the game.”

I cut her off when more people start filling into the dining hall.

“Come with me.” I pull her up, practically dragging her out to my car.

I need to get out of here.

I need to clear my head.

Chapter 11

Lenny

“Where are we going?” I asked Nick as he drags me up out of my seat.

He hasn’t answered.

I’m lucky I had a chance to grab my bag off the back of the chair when he pulled me up.

Now, I’m sitting in his car while he’s driving out of campus down the wet highway.

It rained earlier and the sky has just cleared up, but the roads are still dangerously wet.

Nick is driving too fast. It’s making me nervous. That mixed with his silence, he’s scaring me.

“Nick. You’re freaking me out.” I screech after he hasn’t answered any of my questions.

He moves his hand to rest on the middle gear shift and I flinch.

“Jeez. Relax, Lenny. Do you really think I’m going to hurt you?”

Yes.

It’s the first thing he’s said to me since we left the dining hall. So yes, I believe he’s going to hurt me.

Ok, not really. Not on purpose anyway.

“I don’t know. No.” I feel stupid for even thinking it.

Nick Miller is not going to hurt me.

At least I don’t think so. I hardly know him. I don’t even think people would notice if anything did happen to me.

“I’m just going somewhere I like to go to. You know. To think.” He scratches the back of his neck. “Your babbling is distracting.”

My babbling? I haven’t said anything since we got in his car. I was not babbling.

Ok, I might have been babbling.

I start talking fast when I’m nervous.

He makes me nervous.

He pulls into a parking lot of a mini golf place.

Is he taking me mini-golfing?

There are a lot nicer ones closer to campus. This one is run down and small.
