The place is packed with people watching it. It just started, and Greg plops down and stares at the TV. He played baseball and hockey in high school. He wasn’t that good at baseball, so he stuck with hockey. Based on his size, football may have been an even better fit.

I immersed myself in hockey after middle school. Before that was soccer. In both sports, I played the goalie. I knew from day one what I wanted to do.

“Who are you texting?” Greg asks, suddenly turning his attention to me as he passes me a menu.

“Eh, no one.” I put my phone away, not wanting to get caught.

I don’t want to hear it from him. I don’t want to add any more fuel to Greg’s hopes of Lenny and me becoming an official couple.

Greg stops paying attention to me so I secretly slide it back out to send another text.

Me:I lied. I am jealous. So, I can’t wish you luck. Instead, I’m hoping it’s a small penis and boring conversations.

Me:Sorry, not sorry.

As soon as I put my phone down a swirl of blonde hair rushes up to our table and pounces on Greg.

Layla.

Damn him! I thought this was a guy’s night? What is she doing here?

“Finally.” Greg huffs, pulling out the chair for her.

Standing a few feet away is Lenny with her phone in her hands gaping at our table.

“What the ...?”

“Fuck.” She finishes for me. “Layla! Are you kidding me?”

Layla shrugs with a huge smirk on her face as she looks down at her menu.

I glare at Greg who has the same smirk.

These two just screwed us over. They fucking planned this.

Lenny sits next to me across from her friend slamming her bag down on the table.

“Wow, don’t be so excited to see me,” I grumble, pulling my menu hastily out from under her bag.

“Did you know about this?” Lenny eyes me.

“No.” I scoff.

I’m just as annoyed as she is. Then it occurs to me. She just told me she was going on a date, making me look like a jealous fool.

“You lied to me.” I let out a sharp laugh.

“What?” She snaps turning from her own menu.

“You said you had a date. You were trying to make me jealous.” I shake my head in disbelief.

I can’t believe she lied like that.

“That’s bullshit,” I say, pointedly.

“I wasn’t trying to make you jealous.” She counters.

“Bullshit!” I yell, keeping my eye on my menu.
