I don’t smoke much anymore. I used to before college and a little here or there since I’ve been here, but I haven’t in a while. My responsibilities and growing up are changing the way I live. This weekend calls for it. Hopefully, it’s one more thing I can inject into my body to get the effects of Luca out. As I take the hit, I imagine the smoke pushing him out of me as it fills my lungs, and then escapes my lips.

Our fingers touch as I hand it back, and I press on Braxton’s forearm as I thank him.

We flirt with little touches here or there while he finishes his joint. Vic was simply being a jerk. If there were any rumors, Braxton would know them, and he’s heard nothing. Either that or he’s being really nice, and faking the genuine surprise he has when I tell him I’ve already had a hookup gone wrong. It’s too early in the semester for that.

After a while, Braxton leans down and plants a soft kiss on my lips. Light and soft, but it sends a little tingle straight to my core. I go in for another, but get interrupted by my name being called. The voice vibrates under my skin, shaking me back from the small amount of reprieve I just had from my reality.

“Kandi,” Luca groans from the porch steps. He looks us up and down, noting Braxton’s arms caging me to the porch rail.

“Never any privacy,” Braxton groans in my ear.

I don’t acknowledge Luca, and he makes no motion to leave.

“My bedroom has lots of privacy,” I say to Braxton, not trying to be quiet at all. Whatever claim Luca thinks he has on me, he can forget it.

Braxton laughs. “Ten minutes and I’ll meet you there? I have to make sure the guys are good.” He motions to the party inside.

Braxton is a Kappa, but has lived off campus since last semester. He still has to come around and make sure his brothers aren’t getting into too much trouble.

“Don’t keep me waiting too long.” I’ve already waited three years for this guy to be single. I’m not waiting anymore.

I head down the porch steps and toward my house without looking back. Anything Luca has to say isn’t worth it.

Footsteps run up from behind me, and I’m not surprised it’s him.

“Ignoring me?” I am so I don’t answer. “I just want to talk.”

“There’s nothing to talk about!” I shout, without looking at him. “Except, you can tell me what rumors you plan to spread around about me. It’d be nice to actually be prepared this time.”

“Rumors? What rumors? I have said nothing about us to anyone, except Willa.” Luca grabs my arm to turn me to face him.

“Don’t touch me,” I snap, and pull my arm free.

He lets go and stands in my path, looming over me.

“Are you really going to fuck that guy?”

“That’s usually how it works.” I push past him, but he follows. “What do you want? “

“Why do you hate me?” He tries to grab my arm to get me to stop, but I pull away.

“Leave me alone, Luca.” I quicken my pace for him to get the hint, but he keeps up.

This night couldn’t get any worse. I should’ve stayed home.

“Don’t deny what we shared.”What we shared? Is he kidding? “We were having fun before going up to your room.”

So what? I have fun like that with my sorority sisters. I’m not running after them to get laid.

“We had a connection. I know you felt it, and I know you enjoyed every second after.”

Arrogant ass. That’s what Luca Kingivson is and what he’ll always be.

“Kandace.” My name rolls off his tongue like silk.Ugh, I fucking hate it!

I hate how that deep rumble that makes the hairs on my skin vibrate and heat up. I hate how he has any kind of effect on me.

Luca jumps in front of me and flips his blonde hair back from his forehead as he reaches out to stop me. His touch is like fire on my bare shoulders, yet goosebumps form over my arms from his calloused hands rubbing against them.
