“What are you, five?” I whisper.

Liam chuckles to the point his shoulders shake. “Why are you so nervous? You know we are good together, baby, and I really like that kid over there.”

Gah.

“Yes,” I say, but it comes out defiant.

“Why do you sound angry?” Liam whispers.

“It’s not nice to whisper in front of other people,” Crew chastises loud enough that we both turn our heads to look at him. “That’s what you say, Mommy,” Crew says, looking at me like I do at him when he’s done something wrong.

“Oh, this is good.” Liam laughs, holding on to his washboard abs.

“I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t mean to tell secrets in front of you. We were just talking about adult stuff,” I explain.

“I forgive you,” Crew says.

Even I want to pinch my adorable son’s cheeks because he is just so cute and smart.

I look over at Liam. “I’d love to be your girlfriend.”

Liam grins victoriously.

My son cheers.

Liam high-fives my son, and Crew smacks his hand back.

And me? I’m a goner.

CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR

Skylar

Crew sits on a bed in one of the rooms of Casa Madrigal from the movieEncanto. This immersive experience was brilliant because my son is in seventh heaven as we explore, and the music plays in the background.

“This is great,” I say to Liam.

“Wish I could take credit.” He quirks his lip since his friend Wolfe gave him the idea.

My leg is a little sore, and I lean against a wall.

“I saw they have those seated electric moped things in the entrance. I should go get you one. This is too much walking for your ankle,” he worries.

“I’m fine. I’ve been doing good with staying off my foot. I need to be walking a bit. I feel stir-crazy.”

“Fine, but if you feel it starting to hurt, don’t be a martyr. It’s better you don’t push it when you’re so close to getting that cast off,” Liam advises.

“Yes, Doctor,” I say, and I give him a salute.

“Doctor, huh! Is that a fantasy of yours?” he asks.

“Depends, you got a white coat?” I whisper.

“I can get my hands on one,” he says back.

“That’s fine. I have a thing for hockey players.” I wink.

I realize then he isn’t the only hockey player I’ve dated.
