“I’ve never had a guy friend before. At least not one I was so close with. Is it normal to grind up on your friend?” I ask Evan and yes, I am loose-tongued, horny, a mess, you name it and I’m feeling it.

Evan begins to choke. “I-I’m not sure. Never had a friend who was a girl either. I figured we were both exceptionally good dancers?” He shrugs. It isn’t much of an answer but I can see I’m making him nervous. Since we are dancing a slow song, he spins me and then dips me and I begin to laugh. “I can assure you there will be no grinding in front of your dad.”

“Right, my dad is your coach. Is that awkward?” I ask.

“Is wine truth serum for you?” he asks in return.

“Maybe, if I’m being honest. I’m nervous about seeing Andrew tomorrow,” I confess.

“Do you think you will still want him?” Evan asks.

“Hell no,” I snap. “I’m scared of remembering such a dark time in my life. I may want to kick him in the balls.”

Evan bursts into laughter. “You’re something else. And if anything, I’ll do it for you.”

“You are just so sweet,” I praise, and I don’t realize I have started rubbing the back of his neck. He gets skittish.

“Patty, what are you doing?” He begins to pull away.

“Sorry, I don’t know. It just felt natural,” I say, and I stop rubbing his neck.

“It felt natural for you to caress my neck?” he asks, and his tone is so high I think it may crack.

“Sorry.” I shake my head. “I don’t know what’s gotten into me.”

“Maybe Andrew?” Evan says.

“Definitely not Andrew,” I reply, and my thumb strokes his neck again. What the hell am I doing? I’m hitting on Evan.

He pulls away from me. “I need to go to the men’s room,” he states and then he’s stalking off, leaving me on the dance floor.

Kevin walks by and so he takes me in his arms. “What’s going on, Sis?”

“Not much, you?” I ask my brother.

“You’re drunk,” he laughs.

“I’m not,” I deny.

“Is there something going on between you and Hayworth because I just caught that interlude?” my brother laughs.

“Would you shut up? There isn’t anything going on. His neck felt nice so I rubbed it.” I shrug.

“Sis, you sent him running off,” Kevin chuckles.

“Probably because he’s terrified of Daddy.”

“Patty, you work for the team. Everyone knows it’s a big no-no to get it on with an employee of the same team you work for.”

“Evan and I are not getting it on. Gah! I can’t believe you just said that. Now I feel like my ears are ringing.”

“What am I supposed to say?” Kevin laughs. “I just witnessed that dude take off because he couldn’t handle you touching him. He wants you. You better be careful.”

I look at my brother like he’s nuts. “Evan doesn’t want me.”

“Evan wants you. I’m a guy, I can tell,” he confirms.

I bite my lip, trying to figure out what it all means, but my head is buzzing and nothing makes sense.
