“Well, that statement is straight out untrue. My dad is a hockey player and so is my brother,” I reply coyly.

She gives me a come-on kind of look. “You know exactly what I mean.”

“I felt bad for him.” I shrug. “He was a mess this morning.”

“Is that all this is then?” she asks, watching me with laser focus.

“Don’t try to reveal some hidden secret. There isn’t one. He’s a player on the team. I’m his therapist. He was feeling bad and I figured I’d cheer him up so he kicks some ass in tomorrow’s game.”

“If that’s all this is, then fine,” she replies. “Because you were being weird with Willow and Rosie competing to get into his pants. He is a hottie.”

“He may be a hottie, but I don’t need him breaking either of their hearts,” I state and the moment the words leave my mouth, I know I’m screwed.

“So, you do think he’s hot?” Ellie blurts wide-eyed.

“That is not what I meant at all.” I roll my eyes. “I’m just being a Good Samaritan.”

“Sure you are,” she replies sarcastically as Rosie, Willow, and Eden walk up to us. Rosie looks flushed and Willow is waving a hand in front of her face. Eden leans on the bar between me and Ellie.

They all order ice water.

“Fun night tonight?” I ask.

“Not bad,” Rosie says.

“Where’s Amelia?” I ask.

“She’s still dancing with Evan. That boy has moves,” Eden declares, fanning herself.

My stomach drops, but I don’t show it because my reaction is insane. I’m not attracted to Evan. I don’t care who he sleeps with. I brought him to this very bar so he could get laid.

“Cool,” I remark, taking my phone out of my jacket pocket. My eyes bug out when I see it’s already half past one. “I need to go home and sleep.” I follow the statement with a big yawn that I try to hide by covering my lips with my hand and swallowing it down, but it’s contagious. Ellie yawns next, followed by Rosie, then Eden. Willow swallows half her yawn.

“Dammit. We’re acting like a bunch of old ladies,” she grumbles.

Evan walks toward the bar, trailing behind Amelia. “Where did you all disappear to?” Amelia asks.

“We’re tired,” Rosie whines. “Patty started yawning and we all caught her old disease.”

“Haha,” I mock.

“It’s true, you have a real job now,” Rosie pouts to me.

“And you’ve had one for years,” I remind her.

She shrugs.

“Thanks for a fun night, ladies. I have a game tomorrow. I should head out,” Evan declares.

“I should walk you out,” I say to him since I feel responsible for inviting him out with us.

“Thanks.” He nods.

I hug each of my girls and tell them to have a good night.

I head outside with Evan.

“Should I call you an Uber?” he offers.
