“What?”

He leans down and smirks, “You’re a messy girl.”

Trevor licks the corner of my mouth, “Delicious.”

“You take an innocent act that children love and make it dirty.”

I cringe inwardly when I realize I said children, and I’m afraid I’ve upset him again, but he grins, “I love making you dirty, Kitten.”

“Are we still talking about ice cream?”

He chuckles, “Fuck I love you. And no, we’re not.”

Once we’re done with our ice cream, we throw the trash away in a nearby receptacle.

“Where are we getting married?” He asks.

I smile, “Can I show you? It’s about a five-minute walk from here.”

Leaning down, he bites and then licks my neck, “Lead the way, beautiful psycho.”

We walk until we reach the gray steps of the Cathedral. I grip Trevor’s hand with mine as we walk up the weathered steps.

“This place looks like it has a story.”

I smile, “It does, but it’s not a happy one.”

“Tell me,” he says. We both sit at the top of the steps, hand in hand.

“You know about the church and convent that abused girls, right?”

He nods.

I continue, “Well, this was good where the other was evil. The priest’s name here was Father Richard Bradley.”

I take a deep breath, “Cardinal Mayrand tried to buy him off. He wanted Father Richard to join him. When money didn’t persuade him, he killed Father Bradley’s parents, his sister, and eventually him too.”

“Jesus,” Trevor says.

I nod, “Father Bradley loved this church and the parishioners.”

Trevor places his arm around me and holds me tight, “Who owns this church now, Mia?”

“There were many deaths in the war for control. My brother owns it. He bought it to tear it down. This is the church I was brought to after I was taken, Trevor. This is where it started.”

He clenches his fists, “Jesus Christ, Mia. Maybe you are more psychotic than I am. There is no fucking way we are getting married here. No. The answer is fucking no. Let’s go.” He stands, “Now Mia.”

“No.”

Trevor turns to me, “I said no.”

“Will you hear me out? This is important to me. Just listen. If you feel the same, we'll find somewhere else.”

His anger is palpable. I’ve never seen him so furious with me. But he doesn’t understand yet.

“Continue,” he growls.

“I met Father Bradley that day. He agreed to let them have the church if they’d let him have me.”
