“The name’s Hoodoo, and you don’t have shit on me because there is nothing to get. Cut your losses and start looking for the real person who did this ’cause you're wasting your time while you’re focused on me.”

“You’re my only focus, Hoodoo. And while I have you in my sights, I’m not going to—”

“Okay, I’ve heard about enough of this,” the Baroness steps forward, her white high heels click-clacking on the floor as she walks out in front of Crawford. She shakes her head, tutting her tongue to the roof of her mouth. “Nate, we go back, you and me. Remember when you were starting out and needed help clearing that little issue so you could get into the academy?” she states.

Crawford’s eyes bug out of his head as the SWAT team and his men look at him like they’re wondering what she is talking about.

“Constance, now is not the time to talk about the past—”

“Oh, but it is. See, you came in here on my friend’s wedding day, shoved a gun in the bride’s face while trying to tend to her crying daughter, and your men assaulted the groom, all while singlehandedly destroying the house they live in. That’s not very nice, Nathaniel.”

Crawford stands taller, craning his neck to the side like he’s growing increasingly uncomfortable. “I’m just doing my due diligenc—”

“Do it on another day, Nate. Not on their wedding day, for fuck’s sake. That’s just cruel. And you’re many things, but I’ve never seen you as cruel. The evidence isn’t here. Hoodoo has been at the club since he was discharged. There’s nothing to answer for…is there?”She narrows her eyes on Crawford, and he slumps his shoulders like he is disappointed.

“Constance, I can’t—”

“Is there,Nathaniel?”She presses him harder, and he grunts out a huff while folding his arms over his chest like an errant child.

“Fine… clear out. There’s nothing here,” he calls to his men, but then he turns back to face me. “If you putonefoot out of step,Hoodoo…”he says my name sarcastically, “… then I’m going to be in the shadows… waiting for you.”

The SWAT guy behind me releases my wrists, my back throbbing as I move to stand. “Some would call that stalking, Crawford. You know that’s illegal, right?”I reply just as sarcastically back to him.

Everyone around me smirks, but Crawford narrows his eyes. “You think you just got saved?” He lets a small laugh escape while shaking his head. “The Baroness stuck her neck out for you. Now you’re inherdebt. If it were me, I would have taken the fall for Charlotte over being in the Baroness’ debt. Good luck, boys.” He smirks, then turns, walking for the exit, leaving a trail of destruction in his damn wake.

I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. They completely clear out, and Raid gives us the all-clear.

“Fucking hell! I’m sorry, Pres,” I turn and call out to him.

“We got ya back. Always do, brother.” Then he spins, rushing for Kaia and his daughter, at the same time Maxxy races for me.

She slams into me, my back throbbing with the hit, but I don’t care. I wrap my arms around her as her fingers touch the scrape on my face. “That fucking asshole, I’m gonna cut his damn balls off while he sleeps, then make the bastard eat them.”

I let out a small laugh and lean in, pressing my lips to hers, needing a taste. I don’t want anything but my woman right now.

She slowly pulls back, her forehead gently resting on mine.

“I adore you,” I whisper to her.

Her lips turn up in the most beautiful smile then she bites her bottom lip. “Naw… are you being mushy?”

I let out a snort, holding her tighter. “Shut up and take the compliment.”

Her hand cups my cheek, gently stroking along my graze. “I adore you too.” Her lips press to mine again with a little more passion this time, my hands sliding around to her ass to pull her closer to me, but it’s not long before we’re interrupted.

“All right, everyone, that was a shit show. Brother chapters, I apologize you were manhandled on our watch. We owe you—”

“You don’t owe us shit, Hurricane. Defiance stick together. If you were going down today, we all go down together. That’s what we do for each other. One in, all in,” Six states, and we all nod at the young president.

He’s come into his own as the new leader of Houston. It was a huge role to fill, taking over from his brother, but at least with Zero by his side to help him with the transition, they can be a powerhouse together.

As we all stand in awe at Six and his devotion to Defiance, the Baroness makes her way into the middle of the room and stands in front of Hurricane. “While I don’t want to break up this kumbaya you seem to have going on here, thereisa little issue we have.”

Hurricane cranes his neck to the side. “We owe you.”

She chuckles, and the sound is not melodic. It’s downright menacing. “Yes… you do, and the debt seems to grow and grow by the number of times I keep having to save your club’s ass. I believe this is the third time now?”

“Then I guess you’re gonna have somethin’ good lined up for us to do as payment,” Hurricane replies.
