“Thanks.” Gabe patted Poirot’s head. “Let’s get Buck and go find Chloe.”

Poirot barked.

The front desk officer said, “I’ll call up.”

As they drove to the park, Buck asked, “Why would Chloe be at that park today?”

“I don’t know, but the fact that Josh isn’t answering either has me worried.”

“Maybe they just don’t want big brother disturbing their moment.”

“Then why did Poirot come to the police station?”

Poirot nosed the ground and picked up an object.

Poirot dropped Chloe’s phone into his hand.

“Find Chloe.”

Poirot barked and ran into the parking lot and sat.

A cliff towered behind her, and the forest floor was laid out before her. Where was she? How did she get here?

She couldn’t remember anything.Think, Chloe. The last thing she remembered was sitting in the chair at Gabe’s house this morning. Was that this morning?

She checked her watch. Twelve thirty-five. Lunch time? That explained why her stomach was growling. If she was in the woods, didn’t she have her pack? Maybe some food and water—
