“Save the world today?” she asks.

“No more than you.” I kiss her because my beast loves marking my mate in public as ours.

She wipes at something on my cheek. “I’ll get you dirty.”

I nip at her mouth. “That’s my job.” My beast wants to rip that pretty apron off her, pull her ponytail out, and wrap my fist in the strands to bend her over and take her here. But I’ll save it for when there’s not an audience. “You have derby practice tonight?”

“No. I thought we’d have a date night at the Hack and Ale, maybe make out in the back hallway.”

Brilliant mate. “Yeah?”

“Perhaps you’ll propose again.” Her wicked tone makes me fight the urge to spank her right here—something we would both enjoy too much to keep it appropriate in front of the youngest students.

“You’re determined to drag this out until I have to propose more times to you than Stone did to Kiva?”

“You passed his seven attempts about a dozen no’s ago.” She laughs, and the sound has my wolf wanting to roll in it.

“Only because I know you’ll say yes one of these times.” After all, marriage is secondary when we’re mates—bonded for this lifetime and those beyond it.

She sinks dirty fingers into my hair, and I need to feel that touch in my fur. I should spend the rest of the afternoon in her garden in my other form, soaking up sunshine and her attention.

“Maybe tonight I’ll say yes.” Her gaze locks on mine, full of love.

My love. My mate. Someday my wife. My happily ever after.
