Agritox. A silver bullet, it was referred to sometimes. Alpha’s poison. But I was sure. “It’s safe.”

I only had half a vial left, and I kept it for special occasions. I paused, a thought creeping in, one that I’d had before, but I hadn’t had the opportunity to explore.

With a smile, I added another small amount of Agritox to a vial of normal saline. I swirled it, watching curiously as it dissolved.

“This is starting to get a bit concerning, mate.”

I ignored him, instead watching the last few swirls of silver disappear into the clear liquid.

“Tell me that’s just for assurance…” Rook blinked as I pulled a second gun from my bag. A real one.

Thiswas just for assurance, though I would need it—much later in the night, anyway.

Rook was right about how closely Agritox was tracked. The only reason I knew this vial was written off as a loss was because I stalked the tracking of this substance almost as closely as I stalked the drug rings amongst celebrity actors.

I tugged out my burner phone and shot off one text.

The go-ahead.

Drawing up the rest of the drugs I needed and capping the needle, I turned back to him. “You are going to wait in here until I say you can come.”

“What?”

“This part’s delicate,” I said. And mine.

Hecouldcome, and rather unexpectedly, the idea wasn’t as appalling as I’d imagined. It wasn’t because it was Rook, obviously, but one of my pack with me? The thought was strangely comforting.

I think… I’d even allow him to help if he had the stomach for it.

But I wouldn’t give him this part.

I fitted a full mask over my face and fixed my hood so it covered any trace of my silver hair.

Blood began rushing through my veins, the first traces of excitement stirring.

Vex truly was the most incredible woman in the world. Not only did she give me a thrill I’d never had before, but her wants? They aligned with justifyingthis—the thing that would soon slip into second place for the best feeling in the world.

I knew what the first would be: Her trembling beneath me like she had beneath Rook last night coming apart from my touch.

After tonight, she would let me.

Fuck, I couldn’t wait until her heat, when I could do it to her over and over and it would never be too much.

I checked my bag once more, making sure I had everything, and left Rook waiting in my car.

This alpha had security cameras all over this place. An abnormal amount, compared to his neighbours, but not at all surprising considering what he did to afford a house like this. Tonight, though, those cameras were having some serious technical difficulties, and last night’s video would be replacing anything they might catch.

Tugging a key from my pocket, I slid it into the lock, turning it with perfect slowness so as not to make a sound.

Usually, at this time of night, he would be in the living room, watching TV. His evening routine consisted of a few trips to the kitchen to restock on drinks and food, but nothing else.

Tonight, however, he wouldn’t be in the living room. Not after the text he’d just received.

The back door creaked only a little as I opened it and slipped in.

Sure enough, I heard a thump from upstairs. Something heavy hitting the floor. A suitcase, perhaps? Footsteps on floorboards above were hurried, and the shuffling was desperate.

Perfect.
