It was who he was.
His grip dropped from my waist, fingers dipping into my core again. I moaned into his mouth, wanting more.
I broke away, brushing a loose strand of his silver hair from his eyes as I stared into them. “I want you.”
“I have permission?” His voice was low, breath hot at my ear as he nipped it. “Loosen that leash, and I’ll fuck you until you’re full of my seed.” His lips trailed my neck, thumb brushing my stomach. “And then I’m going to keep it all inside you with my knot so that pretty little body of yours can’t escape while I make you come until you beg me to stop.”
I shivered, lips parted as my words fled me. It was all I could do to nod.
I wanted all of that.
And then the truth rushed in. The dark reality that waited in the wings.
Zeus’s promise.
Not a command, and somehow worse for it. The last thing he’d said to me before he sent me back to them. The one promise he’d made that sent fear rocketing through my veins whenever I thought of it.
Ebony drew back, eyes narrowed.
“Something’s wrong,” he said.
I swallowed, trying to shove it down, trying to return to the moment before, when I didn’t remember. When it was just me and him.
I couldn’t.
Sickness turned my stomach.
“I need…” I let out a breath, and he released me, shifting back on the bed. “I just need a moment.”
I hated seeing the confusion in his eyes as I fled to the bathroom, knowing I was so close to losing it completely.
I hated that I was pushing him away for fear, when I’d promised them dreams that would live forever.

Vex had been in the bathroom for a while.
Something had gone wrong.
Had it been me?
I thought I’d done everything right, followed the rules…
My phone buzzed, and I glanced down at it.
Unknown: This blew sky high, man. Way more than even we planned for.
I glanced at the TV to see there was a fresh news cycle that hadn’t been there before. It might well be the middle of the night, but there was no lack of new information.
“It’s more than that, Jo. I’ve just heard reports that there are more people coming forward. This might go further than just the trafficking ring, I have word that there have been two arrests tonight—seemingly unconnected—but my sources tell me they might be citizens who were involved in the ring from the outside.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Buyers. It might be legal to dark bond a gold pack omega, but it certainly isn’t legal to participate in the buying and selling of alphas and omegas—which is exactly what this organisation has done.”
I stared at the screen, shock seizing my whole system.
I’d never considered that.
