Night had fallen, the stars and moon above were the only lights. I caught traces of her scent sometimes, telling me she’d passed by. Even from the traces, I caught her lust, as if she wanted us to catch her. I could feel it through the bond.

I caught twilight grass, too, which meant Ebony had finally decided to join us.

I heard a rustle in the bushes and spun.

The ground was cool against my bare feet as I took a step, peering down the tall corridor of hedges.

I tensed as I saw movement in my periphery and snapped my gaze down the other way.

Movement.

Was it her?

I stepped toward it and caught the faintest glint of something in the grass, reflecting the moonlight unnaturally.

I leaned down and picked it up, rolling it in between my fingers.

A…marble?

What the—?

I turned, much too late, twilight grass suddenly far more than a trace.

A hand—no, cloth—clamped over my mouth. I struggled against powerful arms and my aura flared—but so did his.

SHIT!

My eyes were getting heavy, the world spinning.

“You fucked her in my bed, Harrison.” Ebony’s voice growled in my ear. “Only one way I let that slide.”

I tried to fight him, but the world spun. I felt the soft ground against my arm and back. The last thing I saw was Ebony’s tanned face, white teeth flashing in a broad grin.

Shit…

Nothingin the world that made Ebony Starless smile like that wasn’t completely fucked.

Nothing.

And right now, that was me.

EBONY

With Rook dealt with—morethan dealt with —Vex was next.

I retraced my footsteps, all the way until—there.

Raspberry treacle tangled with the scent of cool soil.

And fuck if I wouldn’t ruin her when I caught her at last. I could take my time. It would be a while before Rook woke.

I was glad she’d let him play. Now I had revenge and theperfectoffering.

I froze as I heard movement. The faintest rustle of movement—just a bit louder than the gentle wind disrupting the surrounding leaves.

I took one step back so I was pressed against the hedge and went absolutely still, instincts on high alert.

My heart rate lifted, and I tilted my head, letting that sink in.
