I got to my feet and made for it instantly. I’d told Rob we were expecting visitors so he didn’t feel the need to come and poke his nose in. Everything we did tonight would be kept as quiet as possible. I buzzed the visitor in with barely a glance to the video feed of the front gates.

The woman who met me at the door was all too professional looking for the hour. It was the middle of the night, but she was still dressed in a white pantsuit. She had dark hair and a cool expression.

“Leighton Winston,” she introduced herself, holding a hand out to me. I could feel her aura, ever present in the air along with her scent, vanilla cream.

A female alpha?

Of course my father had sent a fucking female alpha. Soren was a Hail Mary, but potentially the greatest resource I had. Of course, he’d do anything not to show his own face.

I ignored her hand.

“You better be good.”

Her smile was cold as she looked me up and down, barely blinking at how I towered over her. “You have a missing gold pack. The cops won’t bat an eye. Time isn’t in your favour and as far as I can see, you don’t have many options—”

“I have more resources than my dear old dad,” I replied. “So if he wastes a second of my time—”

“If youdidhave options”—Leighton cut me off, voice icy—“I would still be the best. Now, I’m newly packed-up, and I have a post-heat omega at home desperate to carry on house hunting. So, trust me when I say it’s in my best interests to get this mess cleaned up as fast as possible. Do you have an office, or am I expected to work in the foyer?” she asked. “Sorendidwarn me you were a neanderthal.”

I knew there was a snarl on my face, but I took a step back.

She was right about one thing. We were short on time, and she had arrived within the hour despite how late it was.

I had no room to be picky. My mate was gone—had beentakenfrom me. My fury returned at the thought of it. At the thought of that video.

Shoving it down for later, I set Leighton up in the office, but before I called the rest of the pack down, I took a seat.

“A couple of ground rules before we get started.”

Leighton, who was just opening her laptop, lifted an eyebrow.

“There are certain types of information I need dealt with… discreetly. You don’t take them to anyone but me, not even my pack lead. Is that clear?”

As if on cue, the burner phone I’d activated only half an hour before, buzzed in my pocket, and I tugged it out instantly glancing down at the text.

Unknown: What’s the job?

Leighton reclined in her chair, fixing me with a calculating look, but this part was non-negotiable. For the first time in my life, Love had dropped his leash on me entirely, but I wasn’t fool enough to believe he could stomach every detail.

Finally, she shrugged. “Doesn’t make a difference to me.”

I nodded, then returned my attention to the text, already formulating my response.

No one, neither the piece of shit pack that dark bonded her, nor the law, would get in my way.

I wasn’t just going to bring her home—that wasn’t enough for my mate. I would hunt down every person in this world that had caused her pain and I would turn them to fucking ash.

VEX

Zeus’s scent of stale cigarettes was sickening, choking my lungs with each breath.

I watched the slow drips of blood splash onto the leather seat of the limo.

My mates were gone.

The Crimson Fury pack didn’t want me, and I didn’t have the space to grieve. The next chapter, the worst I’d ever face, was ahead.
