He sat back, right hand still on the handle of his coffee mug. He distractedly fiddled with it as he asked the next question.

“Exactly why did you reach out to me?” he asked.

“I want a chance to show that I can win over your corporate clientele. Not because of who my dad is, but because I’m good. I’m damn good.”

His eyes narrowed slightly as he continued to stare at me. Why did I get the feeling he was thinking about something besides sales when he looked at me?

I’m good. Damn good.

I’ll bet you are.

That was the dialog that went through my mind. I was the one with my mind in the gutter, though. He was the picture of professionalism.

“I’ve heard that about you,” he said without even cracking a smile. “You’ve been doing residential sales, right?”

The server arrived and set my drink in front of me, then tried to take my breakfast order. I politely declined. I couldn’t eat right now if I wanted to.

Nic’s appetite seemed fine, though. He ordered a power bowl with extra protein powder. Once the server was gone, I answered.

“The residential market is great, but I’d like to go after some bigger accounts. Corporate chains, something I can sink my teeth into.”

Why did that seem sexual too? I’d never had this experience before. This man was doing absolutely nothing whatsoever to make me feel uncomfortable, but every time he looked at me, I felt like he was undressing me…and I was the one making it happen.

“You’re exactly what I need,” he said.

I’d been lifting my mug to my mouth, but now my hand froze. I reached up and grabbed the other side with my left hand to keep from spilling it.

You’re exactly what I need.

Those words, combined with the way he was looking at me, made my hands tremble. And my knees and my lips. Hell, every inch of my body from head to toe was trembling at that point.

“I-I am?” I asked.

Great. Now I was stuttering. Way to sound confident.

“I want to go after some big accounts, but I need someone who will travel with me,” he said. “Hit the road, starting in January.”

The idea of getting in a car and driving for hours with this guy appealed to me in ways I couldn’t quite grasp. It wasn’t just that he was a Grade-A hunk, either. I liked the idea of being around this guy for some reason.

“That sounds great.” I smiled.

“We’ll have to work out salary details and stuff,” he said. “And you need to have a talk with your father, I assume. I completely understand if you can’t make the switch. Go talk it over and let me know sometime next week what you’ve decided.”

I didn’t need time at all, but he was right. I probably should talk it over with my dad. I’d head straight to his office to see him after this. Before I committed to quit my job, though, I had to know some things.

“What kind of salary are you offering me, exactly?” I tilted my head to the left and waited.

If the offer was good enough, I’d leave this coffee shop and head straight to my dad’s office. If not, I’d finish off this cup of coffee, thank him for his time, and probably spend the rest of the weekend kicking myself for not finding a reason to keep this guy in my life a little longer.

Just long enough to find out what it was like to have those strong arms wrapped around me, pulling me toward him. Just long enough to find out what it was like to kiss the most handsome man I’d ever seen.

My plan for Friday night was to drink Harley Baxter out of my mind.

She’d been there all day. All fucking day. In fact, the gorgeous blonde with the dimples and curvy figure had me rubbing one out in the restroom stall at work. Luckily, the office had been a ghost town, thanks to it being the day after Thanksgiving.
