“Great.” Skye turned to Jensen. “What about you, Jensen? Any solid plans?”

He nodded. “I’m taking some time off once the baby is here, just like Amerie. That way I can do my fair share of work,” he replied. “Then I’m going to do the online study thing too.”

“Are you also interested in journalism?”

“No, I’ve decided on criminology.”

Skye nodded slowly. “I’m guessing the Rosmerta case sparked that interest for you too?”

“Sort of. When I was looking into the whole thing, I went to see a cop and pretended I was interested in that line of work just to get him talking,” Jensen said. “But after everything happened, I realized I am actually interested in it. So I plan on doing the criminology degree with a minor in psych, and after that I’m going to apply for the FBI training program.”

“Oh, wow. That sounds amazing. And I suppose Clara will be five or six by then, so you’ll have more availability for the on-site training program.”

“Exactly. She’ll be in preschool.”

“You’ll have to move down to Virginia for that, won’t you?”

Jensen nodded. “Yes. But that works out for Amerie anyway, because it’s near DC, and that’s a great place for journalism.”

“Ah, of course.”

“Addy is studying journalism too,” I chimed in. “She got into Northwestern. That’s one of the very best J-schools.”

“Fantastic.” Skye smiled. “You’re all so ambitious. I love it.”

“We really want to fit in some travel, too,” I said. “After all the stuff that happened last year, I decided I want to visit every single place I possibly can.”

Skye nodded. “That’d be amazing,” she replied. “Good for little Clara, too. She’ll get to experience so many exciting new things.”

“Yeah. That’s the plan,” I said, looking over at Jensen. As usual, he was already looking at me, eyes glimmering with adoration.

Skye glanced at her phone. “I should probably let you two go. We’ve been here for hours,” she said, brows rising. “I didn’t even realize it was so late. You must be exhausted after such a long day.”

“You must be tired too, after your flight this morning.”

“Yes, I suppose it’s been a long day for all of us,” she said. She smothered a yawn and went on. “Would you be interested in having breakfast with me tomorrow?”

“Sure,” Jensen replied. “But instead of going out, why don’t you come over to our house? I’ve learned how to make the absolute best pancakes in the world, so I can cook while Amerie shows you around the place.”

“Sounds great.” Skye beamed at us. “I’ll call you in the morning.”

Once she’d left the café, I turned to Jensen. “That went well, right?”

“For sure. I think she’s genuinely changed and made a nice life for herself, and it’s great that she wants you in it, as long as you’re willing.” He gave me a faintly quizzical look. “Are you happy?”

I nodded. “Yes. I really like her. And I can’t wait to meet Jack and Sebastian. It’ll be so cool to have two little brothers.”

Jensen leaned closer and kissed me on the cheek. “You always wanted a family. Now you’re getting an even bigger one than you bargained for.”

“True.” I looked down at my belly and smiled. “Should the three of us head out now?”

“Yep.” Jensen extended a hand to help me out of the booth. “Once we’re home, do you want to go down to the beach for a while?”

“Sure. A walk before bed would be nice.”

He nodded. “You told me that your feet have been really swollen and sore lately, so I figured the water might help.”

“God, yes.” I let out a satisfied groan. “The water down there gets so warm at night. It’s heaven on my feet.”
