“No, the bed is so comfy right now. I don’t wanna.”

One dark brow rose. “Are you about to fall in love with your pillows this time?”

My eyelids snapped open and I sat up, not even bothering with the towel when it fell to my waist since he’d lost his at some point as well. “Fall in love with my pillows?” I confirmed slowly, dully. “As opposed to...”

Grabbing my hands, he pulled again. And this time, I let him help me off the bed. “Let’s just say you’re a very affectionate drunk.”

My face fell. “What—no. What did I do? You still haven’t told me.”

“I’m not sure I remember,” he feigned innocence as he took a step back. “Do you want Chinese food?”

“Connor...”

“Pizza?”

My stomach rumbled again, but I maintained my glare as I worried over what I might’ve done nearly a week ago.

“Pizza it is,” he said decisively. “Come on.”

“You’re not going to tell me, are you?”

“Hell no,” he said with a laugh. “I need something to hold over your head.”

“I’m going to punch you.”

“I’m sure you will,” he said as he pulled me against his side and kissed my cheek before leading me into the hall.

Pulling on his jeans once we reached the pile of his discarded clothes, he bent again to retrieve his shirt, but I stole it from his grasp.

By the time I had it on, his eyes were dark with want as they raked over me. “You’re going to kill me, Maci. I have no doubt of that.” With another shameless look at me, he grabbed my hand and practically dragged me into the kitchen.

Feeling around in his pockets, he pulled out his phone and called our favorite pizza place. But as he ordered a pepperoni pizza, half with black olives on it, I found myself standing there, dumbfounded.

“How’d you know I wanted olives?” I asked after he’d tossed his phone on the counter.

Amusement lit his expression as he pulled me into his arms and lifted me onto the counter. “I know you, Maci Price.”

Wonder tugged at my chest and danced across my skin when he kissed me slowly, teasingly. I wound my arms around his shoulders and curled my legs around his hips, bringing him in closer, and wondered if this need for him would ever be sated as I reached for the button on his jeans.

“Holy fucking hell, you weren’t shitting!”

I jumped as Connor gripped me tighter, pulling me closer against his chest like he’d been preparing to protect me before he realized what I just had.

The person in my apartment wasn’t an intruder...exactly.

“Jesus, don’t you knock?” I asked irritably as my head snapped in the direction of my door to find Amber standing there.

She snorted and rolled her eyes. “Don’t you lock your door?”

“When I leave. But, fuck, you scared the shit out of me,” I chastised her, earning another exaggerated eye roll. “What are you even doing here?”

“Considering I just ran into your brothers, and they asked where you were...I’d say I’m saving your lying ass.”

“Shit,” I whispered as Connor’s body went still against mine. “I forgot to call you on my way home,” I told her before looking at Connor to explain, “That’s how I got away from them so fast. I said I had plans with Amber.”

Connor’s jaw twitched as his gaze studied me before snapping to Amber. “What did you tell them?”

“That Maci got a beer thrown on her and went home to change because that’s kind of what I felt like doing when I realized she was using me as a copout without letting me know.” She sat on the couch with a dramatic huff, and I looked at her like she’d missed something obvious.
