I attempted to turn in his arms, and he held me still. “What kind of surprise?”

“Come with me.” Leaning around my body, he opened the door once more. Taking my hand, he led me through the common room and to the hall near the stairs. He turned, frowning at the wall near a suggestive painting of a barely dressed woman reclining on a sofa.

Raising one hand, he measured a few handspans from the bottom right corner of the painting and pressed against the wall.

The wall swung open. Lorian gave me a smug smile and patted my butt, gesturing for me to enter.

“What is this?”

“A little something I organized. You’ll like it.”

I had no doubt I would. Taking his hand, I stepped into the dim room. A touch of claustrophobia stole my breath, and Lorian squeezed my hand.

“Almost through.” He pressed against something to our right, and another door swung open.

Soft, muted colors painted the walls, which were covered by ornate tapestries. Many of those tapestries were stitched with scenes of couples in intimate positions. Golden sconces were affixed to the walls at regular intervals, casting a soft glow over the plush chaise longue next to the curtained window and the lush velvet cushions scattered on the floor.

In one corner, a fireplace crackled, a set of silver goblets and a carafe of wine waiting on a table nearby.

But it was the tub that held my attention. Carved from what looked like a single piece of opulent white marble, it rested on an elevated platform, the dainty wooden table next to it holding an assortment of bath oils.

Next to me, Lorian shook with laughter, and I realized my mouth was hanging open. And that he’d already stripped off his shirt and was working on his pants.

“What is this place?”

“According to Vicer, it’s reserved solely for the wealthiest patrons who refuse to be seen by anyone who could report them visiting such an establishment.”

I winced at the thought of Lorian having that conversation with Vicer—and arranging access to such a place. Lorian poked me in the ribs. “Prude. Vicer was only too happy to owe me a favor. Besides, I enjoyed reminding him you’re mine.”

I gave him a look. There was not, and never had been, anything between Vicer and me. Lorian shrugged. “The water is losing heat.”

Steam rose from the tub in gentle curls. I shook my head at his attempt at distraction, but I couldn’t help drifting toward the tub. “This is incredible. Thank you.”

He was already untying the back of my dress. “I know exactly how I want my payment.”

I laughed, and his mouth found mine, stealing the sound as my dress fell to my ankles. He slid his hands up my rib cage, thumbs teasing my nipples, and I let out a shaky breath, my knees weakening.

Lorian pulled away just long enough to step into the tub, pulling me in with him. The warm water slipped over my skin, the heat enveloping my body. I let out an appreciative groan, leaning back against Lorian’s chest. I could feel him, hard and thick, behind me, but he pulled me close, plucking one of the glass bottles at random and pouring it straight into his hand.

The scent of jasmine and something I couldn’t place wound toward me. Something sensual and heady. Lorian’s huge hands found my shoulders, and he began working the tension from my muscles. I groaned as he found a particularly large knot near my neck, and he gently worked on it until I was limp against him.

“Your turn,” I said, reaching for the oil. I wanted to soothe him too. Wanted to make him feel as good as I did in this moment.

“This is my turn,” he murmured into my ear, his slippery hands cupping my breasts.

He tortured me, those hands drifting over my skin, fingers coming close to my nipples but never touching. I groaned, arching for him, and he nibbled my earlobe.

“Why must you always make me crazy?”

He let out a low laugh. “Because hearing you beg for me, seeing you so needy, so desperate…there’s nothing else like it.”

It took some maneuvering, but I slid my hand beneath my back, grasping his cock.

He sucked in a breath, and his thumbs finally grazed my nipples. I attempted to turn, but he slid one arm around my middle, easily holding me in place.

“Not yet,” he said. “Let me play with you for a while.”

I let out a choked laugh at that, and he pressed a kiss to the side of my neck before slipping his hand slowly down my body, the muscles of his arm bulging in the dim light. He teasingly moved that hand down, between my legs.
