My heart pounds so hard, my throat throbs in the same frantic beat, the pulsing sensation traveling all the way down to my toes. You’d think I was at the San Fermin Festival, running away from enraged bulls.

Chapter 46

Bryce

I sneak up on Sofia.

My accomplices are in the know, but my girl is oblivious.

Ciara winks at me from over Sofia’s head.

My girlfriend is still trying to piece everything together.

Her sister turns her around, and I swear to God, Sofia is as white as a sheet when she sees me.

Big brown eyes blink up at me. “Bryce?!”

“Hey, beautiful.”

“Wh—wh—what are you doing here?” Her voice trembles.

I approach her. The notes of her perfume I’ve committed to memory tickle my nose.

My gaze drops to her lush mouth. “You didn’t miss me?”

“I didn’t say that. You’re supposed to be back in two days.”

“I got back last night.”

Her brows scrunch in confusion. “You did?”

“Yes.”

She tilts her head to the side. “Where did you sleep?”

“I stayed at your parents’ house.”

She whirls around.

Emilio and Julia simply shrug.

Cassie responds in kind.

Ciara… well, her stance and the cocksure expression on her face scream how you like that?

Sofia zeros in on me, her gaze narrowing, suspicion veiling her eyes. “So, everyone in this room has been lying to me?”

I hold back a smile. “It was more of a white lie.”

She narrows her gaze. “I thought you abhorred lying?”

I caress her cheek with the back of my hand. “White lies, to surprise someone, are okay in my book.”

She blinks, confusion veiling her eyes. “Why would you need to surprise me?”

I drop to one knee.

She flinches and takes several steps back.
