“Ah! Sofia?”

“Yes!”

“I took the call,” she says. “Are you looking for something for a formal occasion or an upscale one?”

“I’m attending a formal occasion, and I really need your help. I’d hate to pick the wrong thing to wear.”

The salesperson smiles and says, “Let’s make you look drop-dead gorgeous, shall we?”

After ninety grueling minutes of trying too many options, and tossing most of them out because my petite and curvy frame is hard to fit, I leave the store with an elegant black sequin dress that hits me at the knee. It fits in all the right places and I look taller in it. The salesperson also convinced me to rent a pair of drop earrings adorned with Swarovski crystals, an opulent cocktail ring, and a bracelet sure to make the latest hot Hollywood starlet envious.

I’m so proud of myself.

I hope Bryce will love it.

I grab a taxi and head to Agent Provocateur. Then, I head to the Christian Louboutin shop. Lucky for me, both stores are conveniently located on Madison Avenue, which makes my life easier because I don’t have to deal with New York traffic. I end my day at a spa for a quick mani-pedi before getting back in a taxi with all my bags.

By the time I get home, it’s already four p.m., and I’m too exhausted to get ready in time for five-thirty p.m. when the car Bryce hired will be waiting at my door.

He’s buying a fantasy. Who cares if I’m tired?

With that in mind, I jump into the shower, straighten my hair and then curl it for extra volume. I’ve had to get used to this shorter, sassier haircut, but I like it. It’s much edgier and makes me feel sexier. I transform my face with the right colors and shades before shimmying into the sexy Agent Provocateur underwear.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

I slip into my designer dress and complete the look by sliding into my new Christian Louboutin black patent heels. I take in my reflection in the mirror.

I’ve never looked so perfect in my entire life. I grab my evening clutch and head for the door.

The driver drops me off in front of what looks like a private club. From the outside it’s a building with no particular markings, but since it’s lined with vehicles, and each car is transporting one VIP after another, I know I’m at the right location.

I’m nervous. I hope I can play the part.

Bryce hasn’t told me much about tonight other than a short text. “Be charming and stick by my side.”

He’s not giving me a lot to go by.

I climb the stairs and when the doorman opens the door to the building, I’m dazzled by the luxurious décor, which contradicts the plain outer building.

The entry is adorned with hundreds of fresh flowers and I can’t help but to be in awe of a place I most likely would never have set foot in had it not been for Todd.

The room is packed with guests, and my eyes can’t help but jump from one wealthy couple to another. The crème de la crème crowd mingles around me while classy waiters tempt them with champagne.

I don’t have time to look around the room to find Bryce because a hand finds the small of my back. He’s so close to me, I catch the notes of his distinctive cologne.

“I don’t know how long I’m going to be able to resist you in that dress. You look exquisite,” he whispers in my ear.

I turn around.

Damn!

Bryce Van Der Linden looks commanding in his black tuxedo.

For a second, I’m at a loss for words.

Get it together.

I plaster a smile on my face. “Thank you for the compliment. I hope I look the part.”
