Bryce looks at me, concerned.

He leans in and asks, “Everything okay?”

“Now it is,” I say with a devilish look on my face.

“What do you mean?”

“I’ll tell you later.”

He studies me for a beat, but accepts my answer.

After another long night, I’m certain I’ve shaken the hands of at least five hundred people. My lips are still frozen in a perma-grin.

I hope it was a lucrative event for Bryce.

I didn’t complain, when he cuts the evening short at nine-thirty.

So, here we are in his chauffeured car.

“Do you want to go for a drink?” he asks. “I wasn’t crazy about their selection and the wine was mediocre at best.”

“A drink sounds great.”

“I know of a rooftop bar with an incredible view of the city and the best German DJ I’ve heard on this side of the Atlantic.”

“I’m all in.” I can’t say I’m unhappy the evening isn’t over yet.

He offers a rare dazzling smile, and his eyes light up like fireworks on the Fourth of July.

“I thought I’d have to fight Spencer off. He’s a persistent bastard.” He runs a finger along my jaw. “I don’t blame him. Look at you—perfect curves, perfect breasts, perfect lips, and a perfect pussy!”

My body shivers as he speaks those words.

“Spencer is too young to know how to properly fuck a woman like you, Amanda. Not to mention he couldn’t afford you.”

There’s a part of me that wants to believe Bryce sees something more than just a business transaction in me, but his last statement wakes me up to reality.

I’m reminded of the reason why I’m sitting in the back of this car, allowing this extremely rich man to fumble with me at will—I’m flat broke and desperately need the money.

The car pulls up in front of the kind of majestic building you can only find in New York City.

A man opens the door to my side to let me out.

I walk towards Bryce’s extended hand, and he drapes an arm around my shoulders—as if we’re a real couple.

The doors to the elevator close behind us. Standing next to each other, we focus our attention on them.

His are still looping in my head.

As if Bryce could read my mind he says, “Even though this is a business transaction, I like you, Amanda.”

I like you too. A lot. “Thanks for letting me know.”

We lock eyes the entire ride to the fortieth floor of the building in silence. When the doors open, he guides me to the lounge by keeping his strong hand on the small of my back.

Wow!

I thought I knew this city inside out, but this is my first time here. This rooftop location is a magical spot, with incredible music and a breathtaking view.
