Chapter 33

Jules

Three weeks later

Three months ago, when I first stepped inside Dark Compulsion, I was Wild Strawberry. Tonight, I’m Ofira––a bona fide member. I balked at the steep fee, but my fiancé wouldn’t hear of it. Granted, members get a generous discount for their better half, but it’s still an eye-popping number.

As I step inside the club, I’m instantaneously transported to the day that changed my life forever. The day serendipity played in my favor. Sydney insists I should name my first born after her. I can’t help but laugh. I doubt I’ll grant her wish, but she’s unquestionably my fairy godmother. The girl who was down on her luck infiltrated a naughty ball and scored a prince charming. Speaking of my best friend, she isn’t a member. The astronomic fee is a bit too rich for her blood. Not that it matters, because Sydney had other plans. She’s been dating one of her client’s sons for a couple months now, and things are going so well. I couldn’t be happier for her.

I make a slow tour of the club, taking in the action. This is my first time back since the Ruined theme party. Between the upheaval in my life and gearing up towards the crowdfunding campaign, Levi and I barely had time to sleep, let alone partake in naughty parties. The second time around, I wouldn’t say I’m comfortable, but I’m no longer a fish out of water. Case in point. The pretty brunette strutting past me in nothing more than a man’s white shirt, opened to reveal her naked voluptuous body, doesn’t even make me blink… much. Wow. Just like the first time, there are plenty of drop-dead sexy women and incredibly hot men dressed to kill. On that magical night my man could’ve been paired with anyone here, but I was the lucky one.

I accept a glass of champagne from a passing waiter and I spot Zeus. He’s wearing an expensive, clearly bespoke, dark as night suit. In other words, he looks impeccable. His silver cufflinks glimmer under the lights as he lifts a tumbler to his lips. Colorful tattoos peek out from under the sleeves of his black shirt. The owner of the club is one good-looking, debonair man. Not that he has anything on my fiancé, but if he were to smile, panties would drop… more than they already do. He’s in the middle of an animated conversation with two couples. His gaze lands on me. He gives me an appreciative onceover and nods. I respond by lifting my glass of champagne. Someone calls for his attention. His cognac-colored eyes shift, his focus zoomed in on a tall silver fox in a burgundy suit.

I check my Cartier Ballon Bleu for the time. The luxury watch is a splurge. Our first month as an official business was so epic, I wanted a memento. Every time the watch catches my eye, I’m reminded how I went from near despair to top of the mountain in a matter of weeks.

Time to go meet my fiancé!

We’re celebrating our return to Dark Compulsion with a bang. Even though we talked about it at length, and I agreed, I’m a bit nervous. If I’m perfectly honest, it’s like a whole colony of butterflies are flapping their wings inside my tummy. I polish off my drink in one gulp before snatching another glass from another waiter’s tray. With champagne in hand, I stride through a sea of bodies until I exit the main party room. I ride the elevator with a couple who can’t keep their hands off each other. I mean, the guy has his hands under her skirt, and from her helpless moans I’m guessing his fingers are teasing her clit. More power to you, girlfriend. When we reach my floor, I’m a little hot and bothered.

“Enjoy the show,” the woman calls from behind me.

I turn around just as the elevator doors are about to close.

She flashes a complicit grin while riding her companion’s hand.

My excitement quadruples.

My feet carry me down the corridor to our assigned room.

I pull out my club card and swipe it. Cautiously, I push open the door.

My heels clacking against the wood floor announce my presence.

Levi looks up from where he’s sitting, tumbler in hand.

He came straight to the club from LAX. He was in Dallas with Linc. It was a forty-eight-hour trip they couldn’t get out of. Even though they have a top-notch team that usually takes care of the last round of checks, this concert has an extra layer of complexity because the artist was dead set on a revolving stage. Since he was arriving late, he booked a room at the Quintus Hotel so he could shower and change.

He sets his drink on a small side table and eats up the floor with his long strides until we’re toe to toe.

His heated gaze travels the length of my body.

“I love the dress and the strappy heels,” he rasps, lust shining bright in his eyes.

I opted for an elegant designer wrap dress in a vibrant shade of crushed strawberry that hits me above the knee––a nod to my temporary club name. I paired it with strappy white heels. Three months ago, I couldn’t even afford to look at such an outrageously chic and pricey outfit. Today, I’m wearing it with pride. I kept the jewelry to a minimum, but played up the makeup. I didn’t do much with my hair. I allowed my long locks to cascade over my shoulders. Levi prefers it that way.

I take him in from head to toe. “I love the suit,” I say.

Levi in a suit is undeniably drool-worthy. Levi in a suit jacket without a tie, a few buttons of his shirt undone and wearing jeans? Well, that’s just an invitation for misbehaving.

“Did you miss me, sweetness?” he asks.

“Did you miss me?”
