He breaks the kiss.

I groan.

I could kiss this man all day long.

“I’ll hire a car to take you home so you can pack a few bags for our business trip tomorrow,” he says.

“Business trip? Tomorrow? Where are we going?”

“I’ve hired your services for a week and a half.”

I’m so surprised, I remain silent.

“I’ve made arrangements with Todd to have you accompany me to Paris. He assured me he’d tell you. He didn’t?”

His words hit me as I remember a text came in as I was running around from one store to another.

“I’m sorry, Bryce. I saw Todd’s text earlier, but I was rushing to get ready for tonight, and forgot to check it before leaving to meet you.”

“I see.” He doesn’t hide his annoyance.

I attempt to smooth things out. “I love Paris. I haven’t been in years! Would we be attending galas like we had in New York?”

“No,” he shakes his head. “There are four companies I’ve been courting. They’ve already felt the financial pain of a breach of security in their operation. My contacts speak English, so it’s not like things are getting lost in translation. Additionally, I work with a Parisian legal team. I have the business side of things covered.”

I frown. “Why do you need me to accompany you?”

“Other than a few words, I can’t speak French to save my life. The four companies are on the cusp of signing a contract with me. That said, a French consultant suggested meetings that aren’t hardcore from beginning to end. The French like to know who they’re doing business with on a more personal level. That’s where you come in.”

“I can help.”

“Additionally, there’s another company I’ve been trying to meet. The execs and I keep missing each other when I’m in town. I finally got a meeting with them. Based on the consultant suggestion, I’ll change things up. The first time we meet won’t be about numbers. Once again, that’s where you come in.”

“Got it.”

“There’s something you need to sign.”

Shit.

I can’t sign documents under my real name. That would out me. “What?”

“Something I drafted.” I don’t understand. “Let me grab it.”

Crap.

Todd has a lawyer who deals with… all matters related to his girls, but lawyers don’t work for free. I owe enough money as is. Astronomical legal fees charged by a New York lawyer will only put me further into the hole.

He hands me a document.

Biting my inner cheek, I take it with trembling hands.

I scan over it—

Sneaky devil.

He had me going.

“Did your legal team draft this… handwritten contract?”
