“Been there. Done that. I have the t-shirt, poster, Mp3 download, CD, and vinyl LP.”

I laugh.

“In other words, I knew where to go to get you a fix,” he says. “Tonics + Elixirs is the place to score much-needed liquid medicine food for late-night partiers.”

“You’re the sweetest.”

“I aim to please.” He hands me the green smoothie.

“Thank you,” I say. When the car starts to move, my queasy stomach churns.

Oh, God.

I place a hand against it, willing it to settle. It’s to no avail.

No more champagne. Ever.

“You okay?” The concern in his eyes his touching.

“Yes, thank you for asking.”

“The champagne hit you harder than expected?”

“Yes. I’m sure I’ll be fine with a few sips of this.” I lift the smoothie. “What about you?” I ask before latching my lips around the straw.

Wow! This tastes way better than it looks.

“There’ll be plenty to eat during the flight, but since I’m already starved even after a blueberry and peanut butter smoothie, we’ll make a pit stop on the way as we head to Van Nuys Airport.”

“Okay.”

“You clean up nice, kiddo,” he says, leaning forward and dropping a kiss against my exposed shoulders.

I giggle at the unexpected tickle of his lips against my skin.

“This might come as a shock, but usually, I travel in a suit.”

He pulls back. “No shit.” His huge grin lets me know he’s making fun of me.

“I always like to arrive at my destination ready”

“What if you’re going away for a fun time?”

“I tend to wear something…” I hesitate. “A lot more put together than this.” I wave a finger at my body.

“What you’re wearing is put together. Nicely, too.”

“A dress and sandals aren’t my calling card,” I say. “Same with this.” I point at my head.

As the minutes were ticking by and the embarrassment over my tardiness was weighing heavy on me, I panicked and grabbed an off-shoulder navy-blue maxi dress. It has a pretty ruffle running at the front and practical pockets. I paired it with low wedge silver sandals. I bunched up my wet hair in a bun at the top of my head, gave myself a two-minute face and I was out the door.

“Is this Andrea’s doing?” he asks.

I shake my head. “Between being rushed and being a little shaky on my feet from last night’s drinking, I didn’t think I would be steady enough to slip into a pair of pants or jeans.”

Beckett laughs.

“The dress looks amazing on you. And it’s easy access for me.” He drops another kiss on my shoulder.
