CELIA

“So, it was aChristmasEvemiracle, hmm?”Katgave her a sharp look and a knowing smile as they sat together at the little café.Itwas the day afterChristmasandCeliawas still riding high on the holiday buzz and the joy of being newly mated to her guys.

“Youcould say that.”Shesmiled atKat. “ThoughIheardthat you were the one who told them how to find me.”

“Yeah, wellLivcouldn’t say anything because of doctor/patient confidentiality.Butas you may have noticed,Iam not a doctor.”Katgrinned at her. “SoIfelt free to tell them where the wedding was being held.I’mjust glad they got to you in time.”

“Itwas a close call,”Celiaadmitted. “Butthey made it just as the priest was asking if anyone knew any reason whyPeterandI‘should not be joined in holy matrimony—speak now or forever hold your piece.’So, they spoke up.”Shelaughed.

“OhmyGod, that’sperfecttiming!”Katexclaimed, laughing as well.

“Well, not forPeter, unfortunately,”Celiasaid. “See, it turned out that he was only marrying me because his father’s will stated that all his children have to get married onChristmasEveby one o’clock by the year they turn thirty-five or they lose their inheritance and it goes straight to charity.Andby the timeHoldandFiercecame and stopped the ceremony, it was too late to find anyone else willing to wedPeter’sskinny ass.”

Kat’seyes widened.

“OhmyGod, doll—that explains the newsIjust saw today.”

“News?Whatnews?”Celiafrowned.

“Oh, it’s been all over the place—on every news station,”Katsaid. “Itseems thatPeter’sfamily just donated onebilliondollars to several dozen homeless shelters around the world. It’sone of the biggest charitable donations that’s ever been made!Andrumor is, that the family fortune is less than aquarterof what it was now.”

Abilliondollars?”Celiashook her head in disbelief. “Iknew they were rich butIdidn’t know they werethatrich!”Sheshook her head again. “Somuch money butPeterhad me sign aPrenupsaying if he divorced me,Iwouldn’t get a single cent.”

“Hedid?Whata selfish asshole!”Katexclaimed.

“Yeah, apparentlyIwas the only girl he could find that was gullible enough to sign it,”Celiasaid dryly. “IthoughtIwas showing thatIdidn’t just want him for his money.Whenall the while, heonly wantedmeso he could get his inheritance.”

“Well, he got what he deserved,”Katsaid, patting her hand comfortingly. “Andall that money his family was hoarding is going to go to help people in need—that’s a good thing.”

“Yes, it is.”Celianodded. “Youknow,Idon’t see howIever convinced myselfI’dbe happy with him,” she said. “I’mso glad theGoddesssentHoldandFierceto me instead.”

“Beingmated and married to aKindredwarrior—or warriors—is amazing,”Katagreed, smiling. “Speakingof being married, is that a brand-new engagement ringIsee on your finger?”Shenodded atCelia’sleft hand.

Celiasmiled and lifted her hand so her friend could see the ring better.

“Asa matter of fact, it is.Ithas three bands—see?Thegold one in the middle is me and the emerald one is forFierceand the ruby one is forHold.Theguys found a jeweler who was open onChristmassomehow and they wanted the colors to reflect the season.”Celiasmiled as she remembered the two of them getting on one knee and presenting her with the little box wrapped in gold paper.

“Ilove it,”Katsaid, smiling. “Sowhen’s the wedding?Doyou want me to help plan it?”

“Wewere thinking aroundNewYears,”Celiasaid. “Iwant to be married beforeIstart showing,” she added, patting her lower belly.

“Wecan definitely make that happen,”Katsaid. “Wecan start planning it right away if you want.”

“Oh, yes!I—”
