“Howdareyou speak aboutMummyin that way?Sheis the matriarch of theThielgoodfamily—the rock upon which our dynasty is built!”

“She’salso a pain in the ass,”FierceheardCeliamutter.

“What?Whatwas that you said?”Peterdemanded.Clearlyhuman hearing wasn’t very good because her voice hadn’t beenthatlow,Fiercethought.

“Nothing.”Celiatook a deep breath, clearly trying to calm herself. “Look,Ithink we need to stop now before we say things we’ll both regret,” she told her fiancé. “Tellyour motherIsaidI’msorryIcan’t decorate her friend’s condo right now.Maybe…maybe we can work something out whenIcome back toEarth.”

“Whatabout the turkey?Areyou going to apologize for burning it to a crisp and ruining ourThanksgivingdinner?”Peterdemanded.

ButthoughCeliahad clearly been trying to make peace, this was apparently too much for her.

“No!” she exclaimed. “No,Iwon’tapologize for something that’s not my fault!Youknow what—Ithink we ought to take a break.”

“Abreak?Youmean from our relationship?Amonthbefore the wedding?” he demanded.

“Yes.”Celiaraised her left hand where she wore a large, square-cut diamond.Shepulled the sparkling ring off and brandished it in front of the viewscreen. “Abreak.”

“You’reonly doing this because you want tofuckthose two brutes that came to take you away!”Peterexclaimed, pointing at her accusingly.

“No,Peter—I’mdoing this becauseI’vehadenoughof you andenoughof your family,”Celiasnapped. “I’mnot going tofuckanyone, butIneed some breathing space.”

Peter’sface changed from angry to worried.

“ButCece, darling—”

“Callme back when you can be civil.Untilthen, we’re on a break!”Celiasaid shortly.Sheturned to whereFierceandHoldwere standing and gestured at them. “Howdo you turn this thing off? How?”

“Likethis!”Holdcame forward quickly to flip off the viewscreen.

Thelast thing it showed wasPeterThielgood, getting red in the face and opening his mouth to shout some more.

“Thankyou!”Celiawas breathing hard, as though she’d just run a race and her scent was angry and irritated.Shewas clenching the diamond ring tightly in one hand—so tightly her knuckles had gone white,Fiercesaw.

“I’msorry your call didn’t go well,”Holdoffered politely.

“Oh, that’s justPeter.Heand his mother, when they get together…”Shewaved a hand vaguely.

“Atleast you stood up for yourself,”Fiercegrowled. “Insteadof letting them order you around, like you do in all the dreams we’ve had of you.”

Butthis seemed to be the wrong thing to say.

Celiawhirled on him, her fists clenched at her sides and her lovely, dark eyes flashing.

“What?Haveyou been using those crazy dreams tospyon me?”

“No, no—of course not, my lady,”Holdsaid quickly, trying to make peace. “Wehave no control over the dreams.DuringDream-Sharing, each person involved sees the other one going about their daily activities.Surelyyou sawFierceand me doing things as well?”

Celiashook her head.

“Ican’t really remember the dreams.Ionly know they kept waking me up andIcouldn’t get a good night’s sleep.”Shesighed and ran a hand through her long, dark hair. “Dios,I’mtired!Isthere a place to get a shower around here?Andwhere amIgoing to sleep?”

Betweenus!Fiercewanted to say.Despitethe littleElite’sfiery temper—or maybe because of it—he found himself more attracted to her every moment.Buthe knewHoldwouldn’t allow them to all sleep together—his brother had a crazy idea about “taking things slowly.”

“Wehave a bathing chamber where you can shower or take a dip in our bathing pool,”Holdsaid courteously. “Andour suite has a guest room where you can sleep when you’re finished bathing. Also,IbelieveKatsent over some clothing for you,” he added.

“Shedid?”Agrateful smile spread overCelia’slovely face. “Dios, that woman works fast!Ireallylike her.”

“Ithink she likes you too.”Holdsmiled. “She’svery friendly—she and her mates have madeFierceandIfeel extremely welcome since we moved to theMotherShip.”
