I get a few moments of peaceful silence and I smile to myself, thinking that they’ve given up, as the door flies open and smacks the wall hard.

“What the fuck!” I sit up quickly, fisting my pillow, ready to launch it at whoever just barged in like that.

I’m met with a very annoyed-looking and might I say asshole-ish Rune. His brows pull down more as he eyes the pillow in my hands, daring me to fucking throw it at him. My fingers flinch with the idea of it.

“What the hell do you want, asshole?” I give him my best morning glare. It’s way too fucking early to be barging in here like he owns the place. His hair is rumpled and he’s wearing a slouchy black sweater and boxers.

What the hell, did he just wake up? I furrow my brow more with distrust as I recall his new quarters are located just next door to mine.Ugh. LOVE neighbors.

He starts prowling toward me and fuck it, I throw my pillow right at his face with all I’ve got. He smacks it down easily and his eyes narrow more with rage.

Leave it to me to poke the fucking bear.

I squeal in surprise as he reaches for me. I jump out of bed on the opposite side. What the fuck is he doing?!

“Rune, stop!” I spit at him, flexing my wings and getting ready to wield a fist of aura around my palm to fight the bastard.

He leaps over my bed easily and lands on the floor with a loudthud.I clench my jaw and bare my teeth at him. Is he trying to fucking scare me? Gods, I’m going to beat the shit out of him for coming in here like this.

I hold my ground in the center of my room as he stalks right up to me and tries to grab my wrist. I pull back and thrust my other arm forward with a punch made for douchebags.

His cheek is definitely not as soft as I thought it’d be and my knuckles flare with pain. The bastard doesn’t even flinch with the blow and steels himself so that his face only turns slightly with my punch.

Oh.Super. Fuck. You.

I grimace and take a few steps back, clutching my now-throbbing hand like a wounded animal.

He just stares at me with his jaw flexing. His blood-red eyes are boring into me and I can’t tell what he’s going to do next, but he looks absolutely fucking feral.

We’re in a standoff for the next few minutes. His cheek is red, so I know I at least didsomedamage, but the motherfucker didn’t even blink at it. Doesn’t help that he can’t talk either. If he has an excuse for coming in here like a psychopath then he’s shit out of luck, because he can’t spill the beans.

He finally takes a deep breath and relaxes his shoulders, looking me up and down like he’s inspecting me before he finally takes a step toward the door.

I flinch and take another step back toward the wall. As he leaves my room, he flicks me a sidelong glance that isn’t completely filled with rage and I don’t look too far into it.

Gods, what the hell was that about?

* * *

I manage to get a little more sleep with a chair tucked under the doorknob giving me a little peace of mind. Of course, the suns are peeking in through my window before I feel fully rested. I might as well get up to start the day.

I wash up in my bathroom and get dressed in a casual sweater and pants. My clothes, since arriving here, have consisted of bland leftover shirts and pants from the servants. Naminé was kind enough to give me an old sweater that she said she no longer needed, but I could tell it was newish and that she gave it to me purely because she was feeling bad. I eye the beautiful white cloak she gave me the other day as well.

Great—I’m just a pity party now.

I wasn’t going to complain or say no though. Free is free and I have nothing to my name.

The clouds look angry today. I mull over whether or not I want to venture outside and decide against it. I’ve set my sights on trying to figure out Violet’s long-lost-partner situation. If I put my best efforts toward it, surely I can figuresomethingout. This castle is huge and I’m sure there are hints hiding somewhere.

As I’m tapping my finger along the pane of my shabby window, an idea zips through me.

A library.

There’s got to be a library here somewhere, right? It’s a fucking castle, for gods’ sakes. I haven’t done too much exploring around the castle due to my guards, but now that I have one who literally can’t rat me out, there’s nothing really holding me back anymore. And besides, after our run-in this morning, I’ll be sure to make him chase me around the castle today as payback.

I slip my boots on and wrap my hair in a ponytail. I check the mirror to make sure I don’t look too conspiring today. I usually don’t have my hair up, but a smile tugs at the corner of my lips at the way my lamb ears look more noticeable and plushy this way. My horns have grown a good inch these last six months, and I can’t help but wonder how long they’ll grow. My cheeks look a little sunken from my time here. I’m just happy I’m still alive.

Whatever, the longer my horns get, the scarier I’ll look and people will stop fucking with me. People like Rune. I narrow my eyes as I slowly open my door just enough to peek out and see if he’s out there.
