“That’s why I like you, son!” Aimee gives me her hand to shake. “You’re generous!”

“And you’re a gold digger, Aimee!” her father curses.

“Dad!” Lily interjects. “That’s not a nice thing to say!”

Lily busies herself with seating her parents, while I busy myself with the baby — there’s a noisy crowd around and he acts as if it’s no big deal. Looks like he is comfortable being in crowds like his mother. Who knows, maybe he’ll take after her and we have a future star on our hands.

“Baby boy factory you, huh?” My father jokes as he approaches the table, his suit impeccable as always.

Tomorrow we will both be wearing the Navy Dress White uniform, two proud servicemen shoving it in everyone’s faces and not giving a damn about it.

“Maybe I’ll have to try for another to find out for sure?” I joke back as Junior holds onto my finger with an iron grip.

“Just don’t let this one slip away, huh?” he says, launching a glance at Lily. “She’s very sweet and very kind. She’ll be good to your children. Not to mention she’s a hot tamale, huh?”

“Dad!” Now I’m the one to interject, beet red. “She’s your daughter in law!”

But Mr. Freddy Garrison simply shrugs and sits down with a blunt motion due to his bad back.

“I know a princess when I see one,” he continues, putting a smile on my lips. “And she is your princess, alright!”

Lily turns to us the same moment he finishes speaking and grins so big it lights up the room.

“Talking about me?” She wants to know, leaning forward, over my shoulder, to look at the baby.

“Yes, we were, princess…” I say, mischievously preparing them for the worst. “We were talking about how my father thinks you’re a hot tamale.”

Now Freddy is beet red, and Lily is laughing in my ear, a sound so beautiful and crystalline.

“Thank you, dad,” she says, in mid-laughter, “You’re a charmer like your son!”

She finally sits by my side and looks at Junior with loving eyes and grabby hands. “Gimme, gimme!” she says, and I hand her our baby with all the care in the world.

“Are you hungry, Junior?” she says with baby voice.

“Please Lily, not here…” I flinch at the idea.

“It’s yourson having dinner,Brody! Plus, I have a nursing cover!” she says, playful, but in between gritted teeth. “It’s beautiful! There’s nothing wrong with it!”

“Huff,” I say. “Don’t complain if a paparazzo spots you.”

“I don’t care!” she sings it. “Hum, I have to fit this ‘I don’t care’ phrase as lyrics into a future song.”

She feeds our son under a cover that drapes over her chest and him.

After she finishes feeding him, I notice someone waving and see that it’s Sweets Tyler, Lily’s first guest on the list, even before her parents.

In the end, she became a bridesmaid, which made everyone happy, aside from the fact that selecting the bridesmaids’ dresses took over a week, instead of a day.

She walks over. “Oh my God, he’s so cute!” Sweets says, leaning over the table, baby voice summoned instantly. “How old is he now?”

“Three months today,” Lily and I reply in unison.

“And bigger and bigger by the day!” Lily says, nibbling on Junior’s fingers.

“Congratulations, guys, this is beautiful,” Sweets says very sweetly.

“Thanks, Sweets!” Lily beams at her. “I’m so glad you could come!”
