Standing and shuffling my weight from one foot to another, just the way Junior likes it, I calm him down and he is soon soothed enough to fall asleep.

“I don’t know what to do, now,” I say, awkwardly. “I didn’t bring the stroller. I’ll have to hold him all the time.”

“Is he a heavy sleeper?” Jean Luc asks. “In newborn photoshoots, we recommend the baby to be sleeping. It’s easier on them.”

“Huh,” I ponder, doubtful of his proposal. As polite and apologetic as humanely possible, I say, “Sorry, but I don’t want to bother him. He’ll be awake in about three hours. Can we continue then?”

I catch it when Jean Luc rolls his eyes before he closes them. Then he quickly smiles in understanding. “We’re going to lose some light, but we can make it work. Take your baby to rest.”

“Thank you,” I loud whisper and perform an involuntary curtsy and leave.

I head towards Brody and Eric, and Brody waits for me with his hands splayed out at his sides, confused as to what happened.

“Why stop now?” he asks, standing to join me.

“Junior fell asleep,” I say, loud whispering again, and pointing at the infant. “The crew will meet us at the hotel in a few hours.”

“Oh! Okay,” he puts an arm around my shoulders, and we start to walk. Eric makes no motion to follow us, staying where he is.

“You coming, Eric?” I say, looking over my shoulder to see the boy startle back to life and dart from his place to come after us.

We walk back to the hotel in no rush, just enjoying the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves. Eric runs ahead, pretending to skid over the boardwalk, but always waiting for us and our slower pace.

Out of nowhere, Brody kisses my temple, then whispers in my ear in the most loving manner, “Do you know why we’re perfect for each other?”

I beam at the question and look at him with a broad smile, “I have a vague idea. But please, do tell.”

“Well…” He keeps on speaking in his best low-pitched tone.

“For starters, we always give each other what we need. When I give you protection, you give me solace, when I bring you my desire, you quench it.”

He tries to nibble on my ear, and I giggle, pushing him away with my shoulder before he can wake up Junior.

“But mostly…” he continues. “I built myself a castle and had no one to share it with. Now I have my princess,” I lean against his shoulder, “and I’m at the same time the king of the castle, and a humble servant to you.”

Amazed, I look at him, into those green eyes that always hypnotize me, jewels amid his handsome face.

“And are you happy that way?” I ask.

He looks me in the eye and says, “More than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

We stop to kiss, slowly, tenderly, the baby in between us peacefully asleep.

I bet Jean Luc would want a picture of that moment, but this one is just for us.
